Role Context
The Specialist - Critical Care Medicine will support advanced ICU services by delivering rapid clinical assessment, evidence-based treatment, close monitoring, and coordinated care for patients with life-threatening illnesses. The position has direct impact on patient survival, recovery, safety, and ICU performance because critical care requires timely decisions, strong procedural skills, disciplined documentation, and effective teamwork under pressure. Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive medical care for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, stabilization, and ongoing management.
* Manage complex ICU cases such as sepsis, septic shock, multi-organ failure, respiratory failure, trauma, post-operative complications, and acute clinical deterioration.
* Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilatory support parameters, laboratory results, imaging findings, and bedside clinical indicators.
* Manage invasive and emergency procedures including central venous catheterization, arterial line placement, intubation support, airway management, and critical care interventions.
* Lead or support resuscitation efforts, rapid response calls, emergency stabilization, and urgent ICU decision-making when required.
* Develop individualized critical care treatment plans in collaboration with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, nursing, respiratory therapy, and allied healthcare teams.
* Participate in multidisciplinary ICU rounds, case discussions, family updates, care planning meetings, and handover processes.
* Monitor patient progress, treatment response, organ support requirements, ventilation goals, sedation needs, infection risks, and recovery milestones.
* Ensure adherence to ICU protocols, infection control standards, patient safety requirements, medication safety, and evidence-based critical care guidelines.
* Supervise junior doctors, residents, ICU nurses, and clinical staff by providing bedside guidance, escalation support, and professional mentorship.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including ICU progress notes, procedure records, treatment plans, consent documentation, handover notes, and discharge or transfer summaries.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, ICU performance monitoring, and clinical governance activities.
* Stay updated with critical care guidelines, life-support practices, ventilator strategies, sepsis protocols, and advancements in intensive care medicine.
* Support continuous professional development, departmental education, protocol improvement, and safe use of modern ICU technology.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized medical institution.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or Critical Care Medicine.
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an ICU or critical care setting, preferably after specialization.
* Eligibility for UAE medical licensing, including MOHAP where applicable.
* Strong proficiency in advanced airway management, life-support procedures, ventilator management, and emergency critical care response.
* Practical experience with invasive monitoring, hemodynamic interpretation, central lines, arterial lines, intubation support, and critical care procedures.
* Proven ability to manage sepsis, multi-organ failure, respiratory failure, trauma, shock, and high-risk ICU patients.
* Excellent clinical judgment with the ability to make calm, timely decisions in high-pressure environments.
* Strong communication, leadership, teamwork, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
* Ability to work effectively with intensivists, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, surgeons, internists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
