Role Context
The Specialist Hemato Oncologist will provide expert diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care for patients with benign blood disorders, hematologic malignancies, and solid tumor oncology conditions. The role is important within cancer services because patients often require timely diagnostic interpretation, chemotherapy coordination, complication management, multidisciplinary decision-making, and compassionate long-term support. The physician will work with pathology, radiology, surgery, radiation oncology, nursing, pharmacy, and digital health teams to improve continuity of care and strengthen oncology outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with hematologic diseases, benign blood disorders, hematologic malignancies, and solid tumor oncology conditions.
* Oversee chemotherapy planning, administration coordination, toxicity monitoring, treatment response review, and structured follow-up care.
* Manage inpatient and outpatient hemato-oncology services, including new referrals, ongoing treatment reviews, urgent complications, and long-term surveillance.
* Interpret bone marrow biopsies, flow cytometry, hematologic investigations, molecular findings, laboratory results, and related diagnostic reports.
* Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and coordinate treatment decisions with pathology, radiology, surgery, radiation oncology, pharmacy, nursing, and allied healthcare teams.
* Apply recognized international guidelines such as NCCN, ESMO, and ASCO when developing evidence-based treatment pathways.
* Support the use of targeted therapies, immunotherapy, modern oncology protocols, and personalized care approaches where clinically appropriate.
* Manage complex hematologic emergencies with timely clinical judgment, escalation planning, and close multidisciplinary coordination.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, treatment summaries, consent records, follow-up notes, and digital health workflow updates.
* Contribute to clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement initiatives, service development, and cancer program expansion.
* Provide teaching, guidance, and clinical support to junior doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff involved in hemato-oncology care.
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, side effects, expected outcomes, and supportive care needs.
Ideal Profile
* Specialist qualification in Hematology, Medical Oncology, or Hemato-Oncology.
* American Board, Canadian FRCSC, UK CCT, CESR, or equivalent Western training is required.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-specialist experience is preferred.
* Eligibility for DHA Specialist License through Dubai Health Authority.
* Experience managing both benign and malignant hematologic conditions.
* Strong clinical background in solid tumor oncology, chemotherapy planning, hematologic investigations, treatment monitoring, and cancer care pathways.
* Experience with targeted therapies, immunotherapy, modern oncology protocols, and evidence-based treatment guidelines is preferred.
* Competence in managing hematologic emergencies, oncology complications, treatment toxicity, and complex inpatient cases.
* Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary cancer care framework and multicultural hospital environment.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to counsel patients and families during sensitive and complex treatment journeys.
