Role Context
The Specialist - Hemato-Oncology
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with hematologic diseases, solid tumors, benign blood disorders, malignant hematologic conditions, and complex oncology presentations.
* Oversee chemotherapy planning, treatment scheduling, administration review, toxicity monitoring, dose adjustment, and follow-up care.
* Manage both inpatient and outpatient hemato-oncology services, including new referrals, active treatment cases, complications, and long-term surveillance.
* Interpret bone marrow biopsies, flow cytometry results, hematologic investigations, tumor markers, imaging reports, pathology findings, and laboratory trends.
* Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and contribute to treatment decisions with pathology, radiology, surgery, radiation oncology, pharmacy, nursing, and allied healthcare teams.
* Coordinate patient care plans in line with recognized oncology and hematology guidelines, including NCCN, ESMO, ASCO, and relevant hospital protocols.
* Manage treatment-related complications, hematologic emergencies, cytopenias, infection risks, transfusion needs, and urgent oncology presentations.
* Support the use of targeted therapies, immunotherapy, chemotherapy protocols, and modern oncology treatment approaches where clinically appropriate.
* Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment choices, expected side effects, monitoring requirements, supportive care, and long-term follow-up.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, chemotherapy records, consent notes, treatment plans, tumor board recommendations, follow-up notes, and digital health records.
* Contribute to clinical governance, cancer pathway improvement, quality initiatives, patient-safety programs, audits, and service development.
* Provide teaching, clinical guidance, and support to junior doctors, nurses, and clinical staff involved in hemato-oncology care.
* Work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment while maintaining compassionate communication, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
* Support digital health workflows, electronic medical record accuracy, oncology documentation standards, and coordinated patient tracking.
Ideal Profile
* Specialist qualification in Hematology, Medical Oncology, or Hemato-Oncology.
* Recognized Western training or qualification such as American Board, Canadian FRCSC, CCT UK, CESR, or equivalent.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-specialist experience is preferred.
* Eligibility for DHA Specialist License through the Dubai Health Authority.
* Experience managing both benign and malignant hematologic conditions.
* Strong background in solid tumor oncology, chemotherapy protocols, supportive care, and multidisciplinary cancer management.
* Ability to interpret bone marrow biopsy results, flow cytometry, hematologic investigations, pathology reports, and oncology-related diagnostics.
* Experience with targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and modern oncology protocols is highly desirable.
* Competence in managing complex hematologic emergencies and treatment-related complications.
* Strong communication, counselling, clinical judgment, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
* Ability to work confidently in a multicultural hospital environment with patients, families, and specialist teams.
