Role Context
A hotel carpenter handles visible finishing work as well as essential repairs behind daily operations. Poorly fitted doors, damaged furniture, unstable fixtures, and deteriorating woodwork can affect guest safety, room availability, and the overall presentation of the property.
This role provides practical maintenance support throughout the complex. It requires someone who can assess defects, select suitable materials, complete accurate repairs, and leave each work area clean and ready for use.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out carpentry, joinery, fitting, repair, and associated maintenance work throughout the hotel complex.
* Inspect reported defects and determine the safest and most effective repair method.
* Repair doors, frames, locks, cabinets, shelves, counters, partitions, panels, and wooden fixtures.
* Restore guest-room and public-area furniture where repairs can be completed safely and economically.
* Install or replace hinges, handles, brackets, fasteners, and related hardware.
* Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and finish wood and other approved materials accurately.
* Read task instructions, measurements, sketches, and technical specifications before starting work.
* Prepare the worksite and collect the necessary materials, tools, and protective equipment.
* Complete daily assignments within the required timeframe and hotel operating schedule.
* Work independently while keeping supervisors informed about progress or delays.
* Respond promptly to urgent maintenance concerns affecting safety, security, or guest comfort.
* Report concealed damage, repeated defects, and work requiring specialist assistance.
* Coordinate noisy or disruptive work with supervisors and relevant hotel departments.
* Protect surrounding floors, furnishings, walls, and equipment before commencing repairs.
* Conduct quality checks after each assignment to confirm alignment, strength, finish, and compliance with specifications.
* Test repaired or installed items before returning them to operational use.
* Remove waste materials and leave completed work areas clean and orderly.
* Record completed assignments, materials consumed, and outstanding requirements accurately.
Workshop control is an important part of the position.
* Maintain orderly stocks of timber, boards, adhesives, fasteners, hardware, and finishing materials.
* Monitor frequently used items and request replenishment before shortages interrupt scheduled work.
* Store materials safely to prevent deterioration, damage, or unauthorized use.
* Inspect hand tools, portable power tools, benches, and workshop equipment regularly.
* Keep tools clean, sharp, secure, and suitable for professional use.
* Remove defective equipment from service and report it for repair or replacement.
* Follow safe procedures when operating saws, drills, sanders, cutting equipment, and other machinery.
* Use personal protective equipment appropriate to each task.
* Comply with hotel health, safety, fire-prevention, and workshop-control requirements.
* Cooperate with engineering technicians, supervisors, contractors, and operational departments.
* Assist with renovation, room preparation, preventive maintenance, and special hotel projects when assigned.
Ideal Profile
Applicants should hold a diploma or recognized trade certificate in carpentry. A minimum of three years of practical experience in a similar maintenance, construction, facilities, or property environment is required. Previous experience in a luxury hotel will be an advantage.
The preferred candidate can identify the source of a defect instead of applying only a temporary repair. They should understand how to produce durable, neat work while operating around guests, occupied rooms, restaurants, offices, and other active hotel areas.
Suitable candidates will demonstrate:
* Strong practical carpentry and joinery ability
* Accurate measuring, cutting, drilling, fitting, and assembly skills
* Experience repairing furniture, doors, cabinets, and interior fixtures
* Knowledge of wood types, boards, laminates, adhesives, and hardware
