Role Context
Hotel engineering teams maintain the systems that support guest comfort, safety and uninterrupted property operations. A fault involving air conditioning, plumbing, electricity or guest-room equipment must be diagnosed accurately and resolved with minimal disruption.
This position combines hands-on repair work with preventive maintenance, inventory control and Engineer on Duty responsibilities. The engineer may also guide less-experienced colleagues and share technical information between shifts.
Key Responsibilities
The Hotel Engineer will complete complex repairs, inspections and preventive work across guest rooms, public spaces and operational areas.
* Respond promptly to guest repair and maintenance requests.
* Communicate directly with guests to understand and resolve technical concerns.
* Diagnose faults with minimal supervision.
* Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
* Clean, lubricate and visually inspect tools, machines and building equipment.
* Locate and operate equipment shut-off valves.
* Maintain engineering inventory and request parts or supplies.
* Record daily activities and communicate unresolved issues to following shifts.
* Read blueprints and electrical schematics.
* Interpret technical information relating to plumbing and HVAC systems.
* Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
* Repair air-conditioning, refrigeration and pool-heating equipment.
* Complete pump and motor replacements.
* Clear blocked drains and resolve plumbing faults.
* Repair lamps, switches, outlets and extension cords.
* Diagnose faults involving appliances, vacuum cleaners and kitchen equipment.
* Troubleshoot internet devices and program televisions.
* Complete cosmetic and general building repairs.
* Use hand and power tools safely.
* Apply Lockout and Tagout controls before maintenance work.
* Follow applicable local and national technical codes.
* Use preventive-maintenance and energy-management software.
* Monitor devices connected to engineering control programs.
* Complete Engineer on Duty readings and inspection rounds.
* Train or mentor other engineering employees when required.
* Report safety hazards, accidents, injuries and major maintenance defects.
* Store flammable materials according to safety requirements.
* Protect company assets and confidential information.
* Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.
Ideal Profile
The preferred candidate will be an adaptable engineer with broad hotel-maintenance knowledge and the confidence to handle complex repairs independently. Strong guest-service awareness is essential because many assignments will take place in occupied areas.
* High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
* Vocational or technical engineering background.
* At least 2 years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience.
* Extensive training in general maintenance, electrical systems or refrigeration.
* Experience managing spare-parts inventory and requisitions.
* Knowledge of interior and exterior surface preparation and painting.
* Valid driving license.
* Universal Chlorofluorocarbon Certification required.
* Ability to meet applicable local certification and licensing requirements.
* No previous supervisory experience required.
* Advanced ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
* Strong general mechanical and engineering-operations skills.
* Ability to train and support other engineers.
Candidates should demonstrate strong ability in several building-maintenance disciplines, including air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation and general property systems.
The position requires climbing stairs, service ramps and ladders, together with frequent bending, twisting, pulling, stooping and reaching. Candidates must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and complete heavier tasks with appropriate support.
