Role Context
The Mermaid Performer brings the character and visual identity of the Mermaid program to life through graceful underwater movement and engaging guest interaction. The position requires strong
Key Responsibilities
* Perform in underwater shows, meet-and-greets, photo sessions, and dry experiences.
* Participate in themed events, private programs, promotions, and special activations.
* Deliver polished and memorable experiences according to Atlantis standards.
* Swim confidently in a mermaid tail or monofin.
* Execute approved choreography, improvisational movements, and trident routines.
* Maintain strong body control, show awareness, and guest-facing presence.
* Learn and retain required choreography and performance scripts.
* Deliver the Dolphin Meet and Greet script and assigned guest interactions.
* Support Shark Lagoon activities and other revenue-generating experiences.
* Prepare makeup, costumes, tails, accessories, props, and hydration before each show.
* Complete warm-ups and personal preparation needed for safe performance.
* Participate in rehearsals, show reviews, choreography sessions, and costume fittings.
* Attend freediving, breath-control, watermanship, safety, and emergency-response training.
* Complete required guest-service training and operational briefings.
* Maintain personal fitness and readiness for repeated underwater performances.
* Report illness, fatigue, injury, breathing concerns, or fitness-to-dive issues before entering the water.
* Follow instructions from Dive Operations, the Dive Safety Officer, Dive Supervisor, and Mermaid leadership.
* Report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, or water-quality concerns immediately.
* Support Mermaid Trainees by modeling professional conduct and show readiness.
* Help maintain a positive, reliable, and safety-conscious team culture.
* Clean, rinse, dry, and correctly store tails, costumes, props, and accessories.
* Report damaged, missing, worn, unsafe, or low-stock items.
* Complete assigned logs, training records, show notes, and operational documents.
* Maintain clean and safe preparation and working areas.
* Work professionally near guests, animals, Aquarists, Marine Educators, and Dolphin Bay teams.
* Attend required meetings, briefings, training sessions, and operational updates.
* Protect confidential information acquired during assigned duties.
Ideal Profile
* Between 1 and 2 years of relevant performance experience is preferred.
* Suitable backgrounds include Mermaid performance, synchronized swimming, freediving, diving, dance, theatre, character work, or guest entertainment.
* Recognized Freediver or Mermaid certification is preferred.
* Willing and able to complete required Mermaid or freediving training.
* Able to pass the annual departmental swim test.
* Able to complete the annual dive medical or required fitness assessment.
* Capable of holding breath underwater according to operational and safety requirements.
* Comfortable performing underwater in varying temperatures and aquarium conditions.
* Physically prepared for repeated movements, multiple shows, and extended costume use.
* Able to wear and swim in a monofin or mermaid tail for prolonged periods.
* Comfortable performing before large crowds and interacting with children and adults.
* CPR, First Aid, or Lifeguard certification is preferred.
* Willing to obtain additional safety certification when required.
* Confident and clear when communicating in English.
* Comfortable performing near animals within the Atlantis collection.
* Mature, dependable, receptive to feedback, and committed to teamwork.
* Available for evenings, weekends, holidays, private events, and special activations.
