The Restaurant Hostess organizes the guest journey from reservation through seating and departure. Accurate booking records, thoughtful table allocation, and clear communication with restaurant colleagues help reduce waiting times and create a smoother dining experience.
The position also supports outlet revenue by promoting available dining options, handling enquiries confidently, and encouraging guests to explore other food and beverage venues within the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
* Welcome arriving guests promptly and courteously at the restaurant entrance.
* Answer telephone calls within three rings using approved greetings and professional etiquette.
* Record, confirm, amend, and cancel restaurant reservations accurately.
* Notify management promptly about significant booking changes or special requirements.
* Review daily arrivals, departures, VIP guests, occupancy levels, and group activities.
* Maintain current knowledge of restaurant hours, capacity, menus, pricing, dress requirements, and reservation procedures.
* Understand the dining-room layout, table numbers, seating sections, and server allocations.
* Pre-assign tables after reviewing reservations and recorded guest preferences.
* Coordinate seating fairly across service sections while following the approved floor plan.
* Escort guests to their designated tables and present menus professionally.
* Confirm that guests are comfortable with their allocated seating.
* Follow up on celebrations, accessibility needs, dietary notes, and other special requests.
* Anticipate high-volume periods and help organize waiting lists and arrival queues.
* Provide realistic waiting times and keep waiting guests informed.
* Observe guest reactions and communicate potential concerns before they escalate.
* Conduct table visits during each meal period to check satisfaction.
* Handle initial complaints calmly and involve a supervisor when further action is required.
* Maintain positive guest relations even during demanding service periods.
* Answer questions about hotel services, facilities, activities, and dining promotions.
* Promote suitable hotel food and beverage outlets during quieter periods.
* Keep the hostess stand orderly, clean, and supplied with required materials.
* Ensure menus and check folders are clean, presentable, and available in sufficient quantities.
* Monitor table clearing and resetting so seating capacity is restored promptly.
* Assist restaurant colleagues with reasonable service duties when operationally required.
* Support menu printing and other outlet administration.
* Help the Supervisor confirm that cashiering procedures are followed and balanced correctly.
* Maintain cleanliness and working condition of assigned equipment and supplies.
* Report for duty punctually in the correct uniform and name tag.
* Follow hotel requirements covering grooming, hygiene, fire safety, health, and workplace conduct.
* Attend scheduled briefings, meetings, and training sessions.
* Support other hotel departments or service areas when business demand requires redeployment.
Ideal Profile
