Role Context
The Tile Mason supports the hotel\'s engineering and maintenance operation by ensuring floors,
walls, countertops and other tiled surfaces remain safe, durable and visually well presented. The role combines practical craftsmanship with precise measurement, surface preparation and finishing skills across guest areas, back-of-house facilities and operational spaces.
Consistent workmanship helps protect the appearance and condition of the property while reducing recurring maintenance requirements. The position also requires independent problem solving, careful management of workshop supplies and readiness to support maintenance teams during hotel projects or new property openings.
Key Responsibilities
* Install ceramic, porcelain and other tile finishes on floors, walls, countertops and designated hotel surfaces.
* Inspect and prepare substrates before installation to ensure surfaces are clean, level and suitable for tiling.
* Measure work areas accurately and calculate tile layouts before cutting or installation begins.
* Cut, shape and position tiles using appropriate tools and techniques.
* Apply adhesives, mortar and grout according to product requirements and established workmanship standards.
* Maintain consistent spacing, alignment and finishing across tiled surfaces.
* Repair cracked, loose, damaged or deteriorated tiles throughout hotel facilities.
* Remove defective finishes carefully and prepare areas for replacement work.
* Complete assigned maintenance tasks independently while maintaining required quality standards.
* Respond promptly to defects, damage and maintenance concerns within the assigned trade.
* Follow daily maintenance schedules and complete tasks within agreed operational deadlines.
* Inspect completed work for alignment, finish quality, stability and overall appearance.
* Maintain organized stocks of tiles, adhesives, grout, tools and workshop consumables.
* Monitor material quantities and request additional supplies before stock reaches critical levels.
* Keep tools and equipment clean, serviceable and safely stored after use.
* Protect surrounding hotel surfaces, furnishings and guest areas during maintenance activities.
* Coordinate with engineering colleagues when tile repairs depend on plumbing, electrical or other maintenance work.
* Remain attentive to additional guest-related maintenance needs discovered while working in occupied areas.
* Follow hotel emergency procedures and remain prepared to assist during operational incidents.
* Maintain familiarity with relevant company documentation and Operational Standards Manuals.
* Observe health, safety and workplace procedures while cutting tiles, handling materials and using equipment.
* Support Task Force Teams when required for hotel openings, refurbishment projects or operational assignments.
* Carry out additional reasonable maintenance responsibilities requested by supervisors.
Ideal Profile
The position requires a diploma or certificate in Mechanical, Electrical or a related technical discipline together with at least three years of experience in a similar maintenance or tiling role.
Candidates should have practical knowledge of tile installation, surface preparation, adhesive application, grouting, cutting and finishing techniques. Previous experience maintaining tiled surfaces within hotels, commercial buildings or comparable facilities would be valuable.
The successful candidate should be capable of working independently, identifying defects and completing assigned repairs without compromising workmanship or safety.
Good organizational ability is required for maintaining tools, workshop materials and tile stocks. Candidates should also be comfortable working around occupied guest areas and coordinating with other maintenance trades.
