Role Context
The Waiter supports the daily operation of
the assigned food and beverage outlet by combining efficient table service with genuine guest interaction. From preparing the restaurant before service to taking orders, processing bills and maintaining organized side stations, the role directly influences the quality and consistency of the dining experience.
Working alongside supervisors, hostesses, cashiers, kitchen colleagues and other hotel departments, the waiter helps keep service flowing smoothly throughout each shift. Strong product knowledge and awareness of individual guest preferences are important for recommending menu items, anticipating needs and creating the warm hospitality expected at Swissotel Al Murooj.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare the assigned food and beverage outlet on time according to meal periods, operating hours and established service standards.
* Complete mise-en-place, table settings, equipment polishing and other pre-service preparations required for efficient restaurant operations.
* Welcome guests courteously and coordinate with the hostess to support smooth arrival and seating procedures.
* Present menus, explain available dishes and beverages, answer guest questions and provide informed recommendations.
* Take food and beverage orders accurately and enter each item correctly into the Micros point-of-sale system.
* Ensure all guest consumption is properly charged and completed bills are transferred to the cashier according to outlet procedures.
* Maintain strong knowledge of current menus, ingredients, promotions, special offers and other information relevant to the outlet.
* Anticipate guest requirements throughout the dining experience rather than waiting for service requests.
* Build professional and discreet relationships with patrons while respecting individual preferences and privacy.
* Use appropriate up-selling techniques to support outlet revenue without compromising the quality of the guest experience.
* Respond appropriately to guest concerns and refer complaints to the immediate supervisor when further assistance is required.
* Keep tables, service equipment and side stations clean, stocked and organized throughout the shift.
* Collect required materials and supplies from other hotel departments when necessary for service.
* Monitor restaurant equipment and promptly communicate defects or maintenance requirements to the appropriate department.
* Attend departmental briefings, product training, guest-care sessions, grooming programs and other development activities.
* Work toward monthly outlet revenue objectives while remaining conscious of operating costs and resource usage.
* Coordinate closely with the hostess to ensure guest information and relevant records are correctly maintained.
* Follow hotel requirements for grooming, uniform presentation, personal hygiene and professional conduct.
* Apply established fire, hygiene, health, safety and operational procedures during every shift.
* Understand and follow the department\'s Operational Standards Manual and relevant internal hotel policies.
* Support responsible energy and water consumption, waste reduction, sustainable purchasing practices and other environmental requirements.
* Assist other food and beverage areas or hotel departments when operational demand requires additional support.
Ideal Profile
A college graduate with at least one year of professional experience as a waiter or in a comparable food and beverage service position is required.
The successful candidate should understand restaurant service sequences, dining etiquette, table preparation, order taking and guest interaction. Previous exposure to a hotel or professionally managed restaurant environment will support success in the position.
Candidates need practical confidence using computer systems and point-of-sale applications. Experience with Micros or similar restaurant POS technology is particularly relevant because accurate order entry and billing form part of the daily responsibilities.
A strong command of spoken and written English is required for communicating with international guests and colleagues. The role also calls for excellent personal presentation, high hygiene standards and the ability to remain courteous and attentive during busy service periods.
