Role Context
The Senior Technician - Instrumentation is responsible for maintaining the
By ensuring that control systems, field instruments, alarms, trips, and emergency shutdown equipment remain fully functional, this position contributes directly to plant availability, process safety, production continuity, and maintenance performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, commission, inspect, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and analytical instruments.
* Maintain process control systems, field transmitters, analyzers, switches, control valves, alarms, trip devices, and related equipment.
* Supervise technicians, fitters, and contractor personnel during instrumentation installation, testing, commissioning, repair, and maintenance activities.
* Participate in emergency shutdown system testing, plant shutdowns, start-up activities, and commissioning of new equipment and facilities.
* Diagnose minor control system faults and complete corrective maintenance in line with approved procedures.
* Report major equipment failures, repeated alarms, trip discrepancies, and safety-critical defects for timely technical resolution.
* Confirm that all instrumentation work is performed in accordance with HSE requirements, operating procedures, maintenance standards, and Permit to Work controls.
* Review maintenance records, fault reports, calibration sheets, logbooks, alarm indexes, trip histories, and completed work orders.
* Monitor the availability and condition of tools, test equipment, workshop facilities, consumables, and instrumentation spare parts.
* Estimate future spare part and material requirements and initiate requests for replacement tools, safety equipment, testing devices, and maintenance resources.
* Ensure workshop facilities and test equipment are used correctly, stored safely, and maintained in serviceable condition.
* Complete assigned maintenance work within approved time standards and notify the Maintenance Supervisor when additional resources are required.
* Provide practical on-the-job training and support Competency Based Training programs for UAE National employees.
* Gather technical data from field activities and provide accurate information for maintenance progress reports.
* Contribute to the preparation of method statements, work instructions, maintenance procedures, and technical documentation.
* Initiate near miss reports and support corrective actions, reliability improvements, and safer maintenance practices.
* Participate in emergency response duties when assigned as part of the operational response team.
* Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas before, during, and after every maintenance activity.
Ideal Profile
* Diploma in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
* Secondary School Certificate with a recognized vocational trade certificate in a relevant technical field may also be accepted.
* Minimum 6 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control equipment.
* Proven experience working within a large industrial plant environment.
* Previous employment in oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, processing, utilities, or energy operations is preferred.
* Strong practical knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and analytical instrumentation.
* Experience with emergency shutdown systems, control loops, plant trips, alarms, field instruments, and process safety equipment.
* Ability to supervise technicians, coordinate contractor activities, and verify maintenance quality.
* Working knowledge of HSE procedures, Permit to Work systems, toolbox talks, isolation requirements, and emergency controls.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, instrument datasheets, calibration records, maintenance manuals, and fault reports.
* Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability across instrumentation and control equipment.
* Ability to work in operational areas and attend occasional site activities in heat, humidity, dust, and changing weather conditions.
