Role Context
The Philosophy Quality Assurance Lead will oversee the quality of data used to train and evaluate advanced artificial intelligence models. The position requires careful review of philosophical explanations, ethical arguments, logic exercises, conceptual comparisons, summaries of major thinkers, and responses involving different philosophical traditions.
The successful candidate will identify weak reasoning, invalid inference, conceptual confusion, unsupported claims, inaccurate interpretations, false equivalence, and oversimplified arguments. They will also guide trainers and reviewers, maintain project documentation, support contributor onboarding, and help develop scalable quality processes for philosophy-focused AI projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Review philosophy-related AI training items against detailed project rubrics and quality requirements.
* Evaluate conceptual accuracy, logical structure, argument validity, clarity, nuance, interpretation quality, and instruction compliance.
* Assess explanations involving ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, logic, and the history of philosophy.
* Review summaries and comparisons of philosophers, schools of thought, theories, and philosophical traditions.
* Identify strawman arguments, invalid conclusions, hidden assumptions, circular reasoning, unsupported claims, and conceptual inconsistencies.
* Flag misleading, biased, overconfident, ethically shallow, or poorly contextualized philosophical content.
* Check whether AI-generated responses accurately represent the views of philosophers and intellectual traditions.
* Examine logic problems and argument analyses for validity, soundness, premise quality, and conclusion support.
* Spot-check work completed by trainers, annotators, researchers, reviewers, and other quality assurance contributors.
* Provide clear written feedback explaining the issue, its philosophical significance, and the required correction.
* Escalate recurring, critical, or high-impact quality problems to project stakeholders.
* Communicate guideline updates, workflow changes, and philosophy-specific review standards through Discord and other collaboration tools.
* Answer contributor questions about conceptual distinctions, philosophical interpretation, logic, ethics, and rubric application.
* Contact inactive contributors, encourage participation, track follow-ups, and report availability concerns.
* Create and maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, examples, quality notes, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding resources.
* Conduct remote onboarding and training sessions for philosophy trainers and reviewers.
* Align contributors on evolving quality standards and project expectations.
* Analyze recurring error patterns and recommend improvements to review methods and quality workflows.
* Maintain accurate records of quality findings, feedback, contributor performance, and corrective actions.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s, Master\'s, or PhD degree in Philosophy, Ethics, Logic, Political Theory, Humanities, Religious Studies, Classics, Cognitive Science, or a closely related field.
* Minimum 3 years of professional experience in philosophy research, teaching, writing, editing, academic review, ethics review, logic instruction, or a related discipline.
* Strong English communication skills for interpreting complex guidelines and delivering precise written feedback.
* Thorough understanding of philosophical methods, conceptual clarification, argument analysis, and critical reasoning.
* Strong knowledge of ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, and the history of philosophy.
* Ability to distinguish valid reasoning from unsupported, misleading, or logically defective arguments.
* Familiarity with formal logic, moral philosophy, applied ethics, analytic philosophy, continental philosophy, ancient philosophy, philosophy of science, or AI ethics is preferred.
* Ability to evaluate content objectively against detailed rubrics and documented standards.
* Experience leading or supporting remote researchers, writers, educators, reviewers, annotators, or QA teams is strongly preferred.
* Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage complex review workflows.
* Confidence using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, dashboards, trackers, and project management systems.
* Experience creating style guides, calibration exercises, onboarding materials, and quality documentation.
* Familiarity with AI training, data annotation, large language model evaluation, academic QA, or rubric-based review is advantageous.
* Availability to complete an AI interview, a domain-specific assessment, and a recruiter interview.
