What Does a Product Data Engineer Do?
As a Product/Place Data Engineer at Deloitte, you will help implement robust data engineering solutions across cloud platforms, enabling intelligent insights and real-time processing. You will collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and technical teams to build, deploy, and optimize cloud-native pipelines that drive business decisions for global clients in retail, automotive, transportation, and other sectors.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Work with Product Managers and Project Managers to understand and implement product-based solutions
- Build scalable, cloud-based batch and real-time data pipelines using Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Develop data pipelines and custom ETL processes using Python, PySpark, and SQL
- Configure and manage Vertex AI and other cloud-native data processing frameworks
- Support data science workflows and integrate large-scale data solutions
- Guide junior engineers and teams on best practices and modern development tools
- Deploy and monitor data workflows in production environments
- Collaborate in Agile environments to ensure timely, iterative deliveries
- Analyze and troubleshoot data issues, ensuring quality and performance
What Skills Are Needed for a Data Engineer Role in Mumbai?
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS)
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, SQL, and building ETL/data pipelines
- Deep understanding of cloud services like BigQuery, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Familiarity with MPP systems and MapReduce frameworks
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Strong communication, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI
- Azure, GCP, or AWS certifications are a strong plus
Preferred Skills:
- Master’s degree from a top-tier university
- Experience with Vertex AI or similar platforms for large data handling
- Exposure to consumer data domains and interest in industries such as retail, automotive, or hospitality
- Passion for emerging technologies and continuous upskilling
