Role Context
The Senior Sustainability Specialist - Infrastructure will contribute to sustainability and environmental planning for complex infrastructure and masterplan projects. The role involves developing project-specific sustainability strategies, supporting certification pathways, reviewing consultant and contractor deliverables, preparing technical documentation, and coordinating across design, construction, environmental, and project management teams. By bringing practical sustainability guidance into each project stage, the position helps improve environmental performance, resource efficiency, certification readiness, and responsible infrastructure delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Support complex infrastructure and masterplan projects that require sustainability planning, environmental evaluation, and certification-focused delivery.
* Develop sustainability strategies tailored to project aspirations, client objectives, regulatory expectations, and certification requirements.
* Manage sustainability inputs across multiple multidisciplinary projects running in parallel.
* Guide project teams during planning, design development, tendering, and construction supervision to support sustainability and environmental targets.
* Lead or support certification strategies for LEED, Envision, WELL, Estidama, Mostadam, BREEAM, and other relevant sustainability frameworks.
* Prepare technical reports, sustainability studies, environmental documentation, certification narratives, and project deliverables.
* Review consultant, supplier, and contractor submissions for technical accuracy, quality, completeness, and alignment with sustainability goals.
* Prepare RFPs for appointing suitable sustainability sub-consultants based on project scope, certification needs, and technical requirements.
* Assess and manage appointed sub-consultants, reviewing their outputs and coordinating improvements where required.
* Review and respond to RFIs, technical queries, design clarifications, and sustainability-related project questions.
* Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, design teams, construction teams, and internal stakeholders to obtain required project information.
* Monitor sustainability deliverables against project milestones, certification deadlines, and quality expectations.
* Identify sustainability risks, documentation gaps, and coordination issues that may affect project targets or certification achievement.
* Support project teams with practical advice on energy efficiency, resource management, climate-responsive design, material selection, wellbeing, and environmental performance.
* Keep updated on sustainability trends, rating system developments, regional requirements, and global consultancy practices.
* Contribute to leadership initiatives that improve sustainability capability across project teams and the wider business.
* Present sustainability findings, recommendations, and progress updates clearly to clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree or above in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 8 years of experience in international engineering design, project management, sustainability consultancy, or environmental advisory work.
* Strong experience supporting infrastructure, master planning, urban development, or large-scale built environment projects.
* Estidama PCRS PQP, LEED AP, WELL AP, BREEAM AP, or similar sustainability credentials are strongly preferred.
* Additional sustainability, environmental, climate, or built environment certifications will be an advantage.
* Knowledge of current sustainability trends and the ability to apply them practically across multidisciplinary projects.
* Experience developing sustainability strategies, certification documentation, technical reports, and environmental studies.
* Ability to coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, design professionals, construction teams, and technical specialists.
* Strong understanding of global sustainability consultancy practices and project delivery requirements.
* Experience providing bespoke sustainability advice across planning, design, tendering, and construction stages.
* Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Natural Sciences, or a related field will be an advantage.
* Detail-oriented and well-organized with the ability to manage multiple large-scale assignments at the same time.
* Strong written, oral communication, and presentation skills in English.
* Analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to review sustainability challenges holistically.
* Team-focused approach with the ability to collaborate across different disciplines, locations, and project environments.
