Role Context
The Technical Writer will apply professional documentation expertise to the design and evaluation of technical benchmark tasks used to measure AI system performance. Rather than producing only traditional manuals or guides, the role requires the writer to construct realistic technical scenarios, assemble supporting evidence and define precisely what a correct and useful response should contain.
The work depends on disciplined source synthesis, structured authoring and analytical judgement. Writers must translate complex materials into tasks that are measurable and testable while preserving the appropriate technical depth for different audiences. Their contribution helps improve the reliability of evaluation data and the quality of technical outputs assessed during benchmark projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Design realistic technical evaluation tasks using source formats such as CSV files, PDFs, spreadsheets, code samples and technical documents.
* Create and curate supporting materials including product specifications, subject matter expert notes, regulatory content and technical references.
* Translate complex source information into clear, actionable documentation tasks with defined objectives.
* Establish expected solutions, acceptance criteria and precise output requirements for each evaluation task.
* Develop detailed grading rubrics with 35 or more assessment points covering accuracy, precision, completeness, testability and audience alignment.
* Create benchmark assignments involving API documentation, user guides, implementation instructions, compliance documents and other technical content.
* Assess whether generated outputs correctly reflect the supplied sources and meet established documentation standards.
* Identify factual errors, ambiguous language, missing requirements and audience mismatches within technical outputs.
* Calibrate tone, terminology and level of technical detail according to engineers, end users, compliance professionals or other intended readers.
* Apply structured authoring methods to improve consistency, reuse and maintainability of documentation.
* Edit complex technical content for clarity without reducing required precision.
* Work with spreadsheets, PDFs, CSVs and mixed technical source materials during task development and evaluation.
* Collaborate asynchronously with project teams to refine specifications, rubrics and completed deliverables.
* Document reasoning clearly so evaluation decisions can be reviewed and reproduced consistently.
* Meet weekly submission requirements while maintaining quality standards for approved tasks.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should ideally bring at least 2-4 years of professional technical writing experience supported by a portfolio of documentation produced for software, hardware, medical devices or regulated industries.
Strong precision writing is essential. The successful writer should be able to convert complex technical information into documentation that is clear, testable and appropriate for its intended audience without introducing unsupported assumptions.
Experience with style guides, structured authoring systems and documentation toolchains is highly valuable. Candidates should also be comfortable working with diverse source materials, including technical PDFs, spreadsheets, CSV datasets and code examples.
Exceptional written English is required, together with strong analytical reasoning and the ability to vary tone and technical depth for different reader groups. Previous experience creating acceptance criteria, quality standards or evaluation rubrics would be advantageous.
Familiarity with technical benchmarking or formal evaluation methodologies is desirable but not mandatory. Candidates must be able to work independently, collaborate asynchronously and begin assigned tasks shortly after onboarding.
