Job Description
The Fire Marshal plays a critical role as part of the **Emergency Response Team (ERT)**, ensuring the safety and security of the plant and its personnel. The primary responsibilities include **fire suppression, rescue operations, fire prevention, inspection activities, and emergency response preparedness**. The role requires maintaining fire safety equipment, conducting inspections, and participating in continuous training programs to uphold high safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond swiftly and effectively to **emergency calls and fire incidents**, ensuring safety protocols are followed
- Maintain **fire suppression equipment**, conduct regular inspections, and ensure operational readiness of fire hydrants and detection systems
- Conduct **fire safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments** to prevent fire hazards
- Participate in **emergency drills, simulated exercises, and ongoing training** to maintain high response readiness
- Assist in **fire prevention education**, including training sessions for employees such as Fire Warden and Fire Induction programs
- Perform **salvage operations**, including protecting plant equipment and removing debris after incidents
- Ensure all emergency response activities are **documented in logbooks** and reports are submitted to management
- Support **medical teams in casualty handling** and assist in post-incident recovery efforts
- Maintain **personal fitness and professional appearance** in line with Fire and Security Department standards
- Promote and follow **EGA safety policies**, reporting any hazards or unsafe practices
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum **2 years of experience** in a government or industrial fire department
- Alternatively, **2 years of experience** in a fire safety or fire engineering role
- A combination of both fire response and safety engineering experience is also considered
Certifications
- **NFPA Firefighter 1 and 2 (1001) certification** or equivalent (JOIFF/IFE Grad Certificate)
- **HAZMAT Awareness 472**
- **HAZMAT Operations 472**
- **First Aid – Highfield Level 3**
Skills
- Strong understanding of **firefighting techniques, fire suppression systems, and emergency response procedures**
- Ability to **assess and mitigate fire risks** in an industrial setting
- Reasonable fluency in **written and spoken English**
