Role Context

The Construction Engineer - Dewatering will ensure that deep excavations, structural foundations, and infrastructure works proceed in dry, stable, and safe

ground conditions. Acting as the site technical authority for groundwater management, the engineer will review contractor designs, supervise system installation, analyze monitoring data, and resolve operational problems before they affect safety, quality, schedule, or adjacent assets.

The assignment requires detailed knowledge of coastal and desert hydrogeology, pumping systems, soil behavior, settlement risks, and environmentally compliant water disposal. The engineer will coordinate closely with geotechnical specialists, structural engineers, environmental teams, construction managers, and international contractors throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

* Supervise the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of deep wells, wellpoint systems, eductor systems, recharge wells, and sump pumping arrangements.
* Confirm that dewatering systems maintain excavation stability and achieve the required groundwater drawdown before construction activities begin.
* Review contractor calculations, method statements, shop drawings, monitoring plans, pumping strategies, and dewatering design submissions.
* Assess hydrogeological data, pumping test results, groundwater models, soil parameters, and predicted drawdown profiles.
* Monitor groundwater levels, piezometric pressures, pumping rates, discharge volumes, and water-quality results across active work zones.
* Verify that groundwater discharge, treatment, reuse, and disposal activities comply with project environmental requirements and applicable regulations.
* Identify risks involving soil settlement, ground movement, base heave, piping, erosion, excessive drawdown, and instability near existing structures.
* Direct corrective measures such as additional pumping capacity, system modification, recharge strategies, temporary works reinforcement, or revised monitoring frequency.
* Conduct daily site inspections and verify compliance with approved specifications, construction schedules, QA/QC procedures, and HSE requirements.
* Investigate pump failures, power interruptions, blocked wells, sudden water ingress, and unexpected changes in subsurface conditions.
* Coordinate dewatering activities with excavation, piling, foundation, utility, marine, and structural construction teams.
* Check contractor resources, standby pumps, generators, pipelines, instrumentation, maintenance arrangements, and emergency response readiness.
* Review settlement markers, inclinometers, piezometers, flow meters, and other monitoring instrumentation used around deep excavations.
* Maintain detailed inspection records, engineering observations, groundwater trends, non-conformance reports, and corrective-action logs.
* Prepare daily reports, technical assessments, progress updates, and performance summaries for the Construction Manager and client representatives.
* Participate in technical meetings, risk reviews, method-statement workshops, and construction coordination sessions.

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a closely related engineering discipline.
* Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in civil engineering or construction delivery.
* At least 5 years of dedicated experience managing large-scale dewatering and groundwater-control operations.
* Demonstrated involvement in major infrastructure, deep basement, marine, foundation, or mega-project construction.
* Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, groundwater behavior, pumping systems, well design, filtration, and excavation stability.
* Experience reviewing hydrogeological calculations, drawdown assessments, settlement studies, and contractor dewatering proposals.
* Practical understanding of high water tables, saline aquifers, coastal ground conditions, and arid geotechnical environments.
* Familiarity with piezometers, settlement markers, flow meters, inclinometers, data loggers, and groundwater-monitoring systems.
* Ability to diagnose pump failures, water ingress, unstable ground, inadequate drawdown, and abnormal monitoring results.
* Strong commitment to deep excavation safety, electrical safety, pumping-system controls, and environmental protection.
* Previous Middle East or GCC project experience is highly advantageous.
* Clear technical communication and reporting skills in English.
* Ability to coordinate effectively with consultants, contractors, geotechnical specialists, environmental teams, and client leadership.
