Role Context
The Senior Manager Legal Counsel plays a critical leadership role within Deloitte’s Quality, Risk, Security division by managing complex legal disputes and supporting the General Counsel across the Contentious Matters portfolio. This role oversees cross-border legal matters across multiple countries, develops dispute strategies, coordinates with external counsel, and ensures legal risk is managed effectively while maintaining compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the General Counsel in managing the full Contentious Matters portfolio across Deloitte Middle East and Cyprus
* Act as the first point of contact for escalations and legal queries from Contentious Matters team members
* Oversee contentious legal matters across 16 countries and approximately 20 jurisdictions
* Manage litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution cases with strategic legal oversight
* Issue clear and detailed instructions to external legal counsel and monitor case progress
* Develop and execute legal strategies covering both procedural and substantive legal matters
* Prepare legal reports, case updates, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership
* Support compliance, regulatory, AML, ethics, anti-corruption, independence, and broader risk management initiatives
* Coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders and Deloitte professionals across multiple jurisdictions
* Maintain high standards of legal governance, documentation, and professional legal practice
* Contribute to leadership development, mentoring, and legal team collaboration across the region
Ideal Profile
* Undergraduate degree in Law or a related field from a reputable university
* Qualified common law practitioner with strong professional legal standing
* Minimum 12 years post-admission or post-qualification experience in common law dispute resolution
* Strong expertise in litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution methods
* Civil law experience is considered an advantage
* Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with strong legal drafting capability
* Arabic language knowledge is an advantage
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex legal matters simultaneously
* Comfortable using digital tools, legal systems, and modern professional software platforms
