Role Summary
Working as part of the Birmingham Business School careers team reporting directly to the Careers Consultant (PG) and working alongside the Careers Advisers (MBA and MSc), you will be responsible for proactively developing and delivering the Birmingham Business School Careers service for postgraduates within the University of Birmingham?s Business School and College of Social Sciences with specific responsibility for delivering employability outcomes for all MBA candidates and other postgraduates within the business school. You will work with a team of BBS Careers, Skills, and Placement professionals with the aim of delivering positive experience and outcomes to all Birmingham Business School students, graduates, and alumni.
The post holder will work towards specific Business School targets around improving student success and ensuring that we deliver on the expectations of Business School accrediting bodies, as well as working towards the key performance targets set by Birmingham Business School, Careers Network, and the University of Birmingham.
The post holder will work closely with other colleagues in the Business School Careers team and across the University of Birmingham to contribute to a community of practice around student support across our global campus locations, currently including Singapore and Dubai.
Main Duties
Relationship development and employer liaison
Deliver opportunities for MSc and MBA students to participate in employer-led projects and internships managing all aspects of the relationship with employers and students.
Support colleagues across BBS Careers by sourcing external speakers and collaborators for events and student initiatives including but not exclusive to Mock Assessment Centres, panel events, MBA academic modules, the Future Leaders Certificate programme, and internships and dissertation projects.
Ensure effective communication and affiliations across the Careers, Corporate Relations, External Relations teams and wider school and college teams.
Implement and expand a programme of events ranging from on-campus information sessions and virtual events to in-country international events.
Co-lead, alongside Careers Network International Employer Officer, on international employer and skills events targeting but not limited to our priority regions in China, India, Singapore, Nigeria, and UAE.
Develop existing employer networks in key markets as well as research and initiate relationships in targeted regions and sectors.
Undertake international travel, which is expected to cover, but not be limited by, the Business School?s priority regions: China, Singapore, UAE, Nigeria, and India
Represent the University at School and College career events, conferences, and open days to help market the School and University to potential students.
Attend and contribute to relevant meetings within Birmingham Business School, College of Social Sciences, and across the wider University as appropriate.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Careers Network to ensure comprehensive knowledge of university policy and standards for employability.
Collaborate with other HE institutions to deliver employability outcomes for our students delivering targeted events such as the Asia Careers Insight Series, and an MBA Careers Fair in London, attracting a range of high-profile employers.
Participate in internal and external networks for the exchange of information in relation to developing best practice in Higher Education careers and employability.
Foster excellent connections with Academic staff across the Birmingham Business School course portfolio.
Business School Context
Take an active role within a team of BBS Careers and Birmingham Business School colleagues to create a community of practice with a focus on supporting postgraduate students, alumni, and international employers.
Source a range of student stories to increase the capture of positive home and international student outcomes.
Manage expenditure in line with budget, maintaining accurate and up to date financial records.
Represent the University at School and College career events, conferences, and open days to help market the School and University to potential students.
Strategy, Research, and Evaluation
Work with the BBS Head of Careers, Consultants, employers, Business School, and University partners and professional bodies to develop a network of knowledge of global opportunities; researching student aspirations to identify demand for - and shortage areas of - global opportunities for postgraduate students and alumni.
Research targeted labour markets and to share with Business School Corporate Relations, Business Development, and Careers team members to inform their work and to provide effective targeted communication of opportunities.
Work with BBS Careers and Careers Network management teams to increase strategic analytical use of Graduate Outcome data to identify trends and outcomes of graduates undertaking home and international opportunities.
Strategic development, leadership, & vision
Generate own workload and consider implications of decisions on staff, Business School, College, University, and wider national employability developments.
Create project plans, costing, and implement relevant activities alongside colleagues within the BBS Careers team and at times in partnership with Careers Network.
Maintain an awareness of opportunities offered by regional organisations and resources in occupational and industry sectors that are available to students to optimise School based provision.
Other duties
Undertake tasks and activities as outlined to ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained.
Contribute to projects in support of Undergraduate Business School students as needed.
Undertake other such duties as may from time to time be determined by the Careers Consultant (PG), Head of Careers, or Director of Business Operations.
Work evenings and occasional weekends as needed.
Conduct business trips overseas to China, Singapore, India, UAE, or other locations as needed.

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
Background in graduate recruitment highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal, organisation, negotiation, and communication skills.

Experience of producing, interpreting, and presenting management information.
Ability to prioritise and progress work reliably and thoroughly sometimes under pressure and to tight deadlines.
