Position Overview
Student Counsellor - Wellbeing Support in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates is a Primary-Secondary Education opportunity supporting students with academic, personal, behavioural, social, emotional, mental health, and career-related needs. Aldar Education is seeking a qualified counselling professional to provide confidential student interventions, coordinate safeguarding support, guide future study and career choices, and promote wellbeing across Mubarak Bin Mohammed Cycle 2 Charter School.
Role Context
The Student Counsellor will help learners overcome barriers that may affect their education, relationships, confidence, behaviour, or emotional development. The role involves direct counselling, preventive support, progress monitoring, parent engagement, career guidance, and referrals to specialised external services when school-based intervention
Working alongside pastoral staff, safeguarding leads, teachers, parents, school leaders, and external professionals, the counsellor will advocate for students and contribute to an inclusive environment built around collaboration, leadership, creativity, and high expectations.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide confidential individual and small-group counselling for students experiencing academic, personal, family, social, behavioural, or emotional challenges.
* Assess student concerns through structured interviews, counselling sessions, observations, and appropriate interest or aptitude assessments.
* Develop support plans that strengthen personal development, emotional regulation, social skills, academic engagement, and overall wellbeing.
* Monitor individual student progress and adjust interventions according to changing needs and observed outcomes.
* Communicate with parents regarding student behaviour, emotional wellbeing, counselling support, and recommended actions.
* Work with teachers and pastoral teams to identify learners who may benefit from early intervention or additional assistance.
* Deliver therapeutic and supportive interventions within the limits of professional qualifications, licensing, and school procedures.
* Refer students to appropriate external specialists or community services when their needs require additional assessment or treatment.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to indicators of abuse, neglect, domestic difficulties, bullying, or other safeguarding concerns.
* Maintain close coordination with safeguarding leads and follow all child-protection reporting procedures.
* Support students affected by bullying and contribute to preventive education, awareness activities, and restorative interventions.
* Facilitate conflict-resolution sessions that help students manage disagreements and develop healthier communication strategies.
* Teach practical life skills that enable learners to manage difficulties before they become more serious.
* Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential counselling records, case notes, referrals, intervention plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Promote student wellbeing through assemblies, workshops, awareness campaigns, targeted programmes, and whole-school initiatives.
* Ensure all counselling activity is culturally sensitive and appropriate for the school\'s diverse student community.
Career Guidance Responsibilities
* Help students explore their interests, abilities, talents, values, and personality traits in relation to future education and career pathways.
* Provide current information about career options, subject choices, further study, university pathways, and employment sectors.
* Assist learners in developing realistic academic and career goals that reflect their individual strengths and aspirations.
* Coordinate access to university information and provide support with relevant application processes.
* Maintain an organised library or digital database containing career, university, and course information.
* Introduce students to employability skills such as resume preparation, interview techniques, communication, and career research.
* Work with school colleagues to integrate career awareness into relevant student-development activities.
Personal and Mental Health Support
* Counsel individuals and groups on social, emotional, behavioural, and developmental concerns.
* Identify students who may be at risk of declining mental health, social isolation, emotional distress, or behavioural difficulties.
* Provide timely school-based support and monitor students requiring continued intervention.
* Consult parents before arranging external referrals, except where safeguarding procedures require a different response.
* Deliver culturally informed support that considers family background, community expectations, and adolescent development.
* Collaborate with pastoral and safeguarding teams to ensure coordinated care and appropriate information sharing.
* Encourage resilience, self-awareness, healthy relationships, responsible decision-making, and positive coping methods.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Education in Social Work.
* Bachelor of Counselling.
* Bachelor of Psychology followed by a recognised postgraduate counselling qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of experience in school counselling or another relevant professional counselling environment.
* Appropriate professional licence or eligibility to provide student counselling in the United Arab Emirates.
* Sound knowledge of child and adolescent development, student wellbeing, mental health support, safeguarding, and career guidance.
* Experience delivering individual counselling, group interventions, preventive programmes, and parent consultations.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with students, families, teachers, and school leaders.
* Demonstrable organisation, case-management, documentation, and follow-up capabilities.
* Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professional judgement.
* Strong desire to support others while maintaining clear ethical and professional boundaries.
* Emotional resilience and the capacity to manage a varied range of student concerns.
* Ability to inspire confidence, respect, and open communication.
* Cultural awareness and sensitivity when supporting students from different backgrounds.
