Job Overview
The Procurement Engineer - Shipyard will be responsible for overseeing procurement activities across shipbuilding, ship repair, and marine engineering operations. Candidates must possess deep familiarity with shipyard operations, marine equipment, and vendor sourcing within a regulated environment. Only candidates with direct shipyard experience will be considered for this critical role.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end procurement of shipyard equipment, materials, and subcontracted services
* Interpret technical specifications covering hull, piping, propulsion, electrical, and outfitting systems
* Identify and qualify specialized vendors for marine and shipyard-specific sourcing
* Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and contracts with suppliers and service providers
* Collaborate with planning, engineering, and production teams to align procurement with project timelines
* Maintain accurate procurement records, reports, and supplier databases
* Ensure all procurements meet classification society standards and marine regulatory compliance
* Monitor supplier performance and enforce quality benchmarks and contract conditions
Job Requirements
Education (Preferred):
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Industrial Engineering
Experience:
* Minimum 10 years of direct experience in a shipyard (shipbuilding or ship repair)
* Proven sourcing experience in marine systems and shipyard components
* Strong understanding of shipyard operations and marine engineering specs
Skills:
* Proficiency in vendor negotiation and supply chain coordination
* Familiarity with classification requirements (ABS, DNV, BV) and IMO standards
* Experience using ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle
* Effective communication, reporting, and documentation capabilities
* Knowledge of international marine procurement standards and compliance frameworks
