The Senior FreeCAD Engineer will contribute practical mechanical design expertise to a project where technically accurate CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering assessments are used to strengthen AI training and evaluation. The role requires the ability to translate design requirements into robust parametric models while maintaining dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and engineering intent.
Beyond model creation, the engineer will review CAD outputs for structural integrity, geometric consistency, assembly compatibility, and compliance with specifications. Strong knowledge of engineering documentation and production-focused design principles will help ensure that each deliverable reflects realistic professional standards rather than simplified modeling exercises.
Key Responsibilities
* Create detailed parametric 3D models in FreeCAD according to defined engineering and project requirements.
* Modify existing CAD models while preserving design intent, dimensional relationships, and parametric stability.
* Validate models for geometric accuracy, feature integrity, and compliance with technical specifications.
* Develop mechanical assemblies using appropriate component relationships, constraints, and integration practices.
* Optimize assemblies for functionality, manufacturability, maintainability, and reliable downstream use.
* Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles to communicate dimensional requirements precisely.
* Incorporate Design for Manufacturing considerations when developing parts, assemblies, and production-ready models.
* Produce comprehensive technical drawings for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and engineering review.
* Define dimensions, tolerances, annotations, views, sections, and other drawing details required for accurate interpretation.
* Conduct engineering QA reviews of CAD models, assemblies, and drawings to identify errors or inconsistencies.
* Check models for interference, dimensional conflicts, missing constraints, incorrect references, and specification deviations.
* Communicate identified engineering issues clearly and recommend technically appropriate corrective actions.
* Use Python scripting for FreeCAD automation where applicable to streamline repetitive or complex modeling tasks.
* Develop or improve CAD workflows that increase consistency, accuracy, and modeling efficiency.
* Review model outputs against design intent and provide structured feedback for technical improvement.
* Collaborate remotely with project stakeholders and respond constructively to engineering review comments.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should ideally bring at least two years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial engineering, or another closely related field involving parametric CAD modeling.
Advanced proficiency in FreeCAD is preferred, although strong experience with equivalent parametric CAD platforms may also be relevant. Candidates should be comfortable creating complex parts, assemblies, and detailed production drawings.
A solid understanding of GD&T and DFM is essential because the role requires models and drawings that can withstand engineering review and support practical manufacturing requirements.
Experience conducting CAD quality assurance, verifying model integrity, and checking design outputs against specifications will be important.
