Role Context
This project-based position applies mechanical-design judgement to CAD modelling, assembly development, manufacturability, and engineering quality assurance. The
engineer will translate technical requirements into controlled parametric designs while identifying model defects, tolerance concerns, and manufacturing risks before downstream use.
Key Responsibilities
* Create detailed parametric parts and models in FreeCAD according to supplied engineering requirements.
* Modify existing CAD files while preserving design intent and reliable feature dependencies.
* Validate model dimensions, constraints, geometry, references, and configuration behaviour.
* Develop mechanical assemblies with accurate positioning, interfaces, and component relationships.
* Review component integration and identify clearance, alignment, interference, or fit concerns.
* Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles to engineering models and drawings.
* Incorporate Design for Manufacturing considerations into component and assembly development.
* Select appropriate tolerances based on functionality, production methods, and quality requirements.
* Produce technical drawings containing clear views, dimensions, tolerances, notes, and specifications.
* Prepare supporting documentation for design review, manufacturing, inspection, and assembly.
* Conduct engineering quality reviews of CAD models and drawing packages.
* Verify model integrity, feature stability, completeness, and compliance with project specifications.
* Document identified issues and communicate practical corrective recommendations.
* Collaborate with project contributors to clarify design intent and resolve technical discrepancies.
* Use Python scripting to automate repetitive CAD tasks where beneficial.
* Improve modelling workflows to increase consistency, speed, and maintainability.
* Provide structured feedback on model accuracy, drawing quality, and process effectiveness.
* Maintain organized files, naming conventions, revisions, and project records.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should have at least two years of experience in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, product design, or a related field involving parametric CAD modelling.
Advanced FreeCAD proficiency is preferred, although strong experience with another professional parametric CAD platform may also be relevant. Applicants must understand mechanical-design fundamentals, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, Design for Manufacturing, assembly design, and technical drawing preparation.
