Role Context
The Consultant Breast Radiologist provides specialist diagnostic imaging services for patients undergoing breast screening, investigation and follow-up. The role combines
Accurate imaging interpretation and timely diagnosis directly influence treatment decisions and patient outcomes. The consultant therefore plays an important role in detecting breast abnormalities, supporting cancer staging, guiding biopsies and contributing expert radiological input during multidisciplinary tumor board discussions.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform and interpret screening and diagnostic mammography examinations.
* Conduct breast ultrasound assessments for symptomatic and screening patients.
* Interpret breast MRI studies for diagnosis, staging, surveillance and high-risk screening.
* Use digital breast tomosynthesis and 3D mammography techniques in appropriate clinical cases.
* Identify suspicious breast lesions and recommend further diagnostic evaluation when necessary.
* Perform image-guided breast biopsies using appropriate imaging modalities.
* Conduct needle localization procedures before surgical intervention.
* Evaluate imaging findings in conjunction with clinical history and previous investigations.
* Produce accurate, detailed and timely radiology reports.
* Communicate urgent or significant findings promptly to referring physicians.
* Provide specialist breast imaging consultations to clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in breast cancer tumor boards and multidisciplinary case conferences.
* Collaborate with breast surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and other relevant specialists.
* Contribute radiological expertise to individualized patient treatment planning.
* Review imaging findings during follow-up and assess response to treatment where applicable.
* Maintain high standards of imaging quality and diagnostic accuracy.
* Apply established breast imaging reporting and assessment protocols.
* Ensure appropriate patient preparation and communication before diagnostic or interventional procedures.
* Explain image-guided procedures, expected outcomes and potential risks to patients.
* Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality and informed consent throughout clinical care.
* Supervise and mentor junior radiologists and trainees when required.
* Support radiographers and technical staff in maintaining breast imaging quality standards.
* Participate in departmental quality assurance and continuous improvement programs.
* Review discrepancies and contribute to learning from imaging outcomes.
* Maintain accurate medical documentation and procedural records.
* Follow hospital policies, ethical standards and applicable healthcare regulations.
* Maintain continuing professional development in breast radiology and emerging imaging technologies.
* Contribute to clinical education, professional meetings and service improvement initiatives.
Ideal Profile
The position requires a recognized medical degree followed by Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology and formal subspecialty training in Breast Imaging.
Candidates should have at least five years of experience working at Consultant Breast Radiologist level, preferably within a tertiary hospital, specialist breast center or advanced diagnostic imaging environment.
Western education or specialist training is required for this role.
The successful consultant should demonstrate extensive experience interpreting mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI examinations, together with proficiency in 3D mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis.
Practical expertise in image-guided breast procedures, including biopsies and needle localization, is essential.
Fluency in both Arabic and English is required to support effective communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
A valid UAE professional license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate license is preferred.
