The role requires close collaboration with breast radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, pathologists, specialist nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. Multidisciplinary planning will support accurate diagnosis, appropriate surgical selection, safe treatment, and strong functional and aesthetic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage benign, malignant, and high-risk breast conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive breast assessments, including clinical examination and medical history review.
* Evaluate patients presenting with breast lumps, pain, nipple discharge, infections, skin changes, or other breast-related symptoms.
* Review mammography, ultrasound, MRI, pathology, and other diagnostic investigations.
* Assess patients with hereditary, familial, or clinically elevated breast cancer risk.
* Develop individualized surgical and non-surgical treatment plans.
* Perform breast-conserving surgery, including lumpectomy, within approved clinical privileges.
* Perform mastectomy for appropriate oncological or risk-reduction indications.
* Conduct sentinel lymph node biopsy and axillary lymph node dissection.
* Apply oncoplastic surgical techniques to support cancer clearance and aesthetic outcomes.
* Manage benign breast disease using evidence-based medical or surgical approaches.
* Collaborate with radiologists during image-guided biopsy, lesion localization, and preoperative planning.
* Participate in multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings and complex case discussions.
* Coordinate care with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and reconstructive surgery teams.
* Conduct detailed preoperative assessments and identify surgical, anesthetic, and recovery risks.
* Explain diagnoses, treatment alternatives, surgical procedures, risks, expected outcomes, and recovery requirements.
* Obtain informed consent and document patient discussions accurately.
* Provide postoperative care and monitor wound healing, pain, infection, lymphatic complications, and functional recovery.
* Arrange pathology review, additional treatment referrals, and long-term breast cancer surveillance.
* Educate patients about breast screening, early detection, preventive strategies, and treatment options.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, pathology reviews, and follow-up plans.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority regulations, hospital policies, infection control, and patient safety requirements.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, and continuing medical education.
* Mentor junior physicians and contribute to departmental teaching and professional development.
* Remain current with advances in breast oncology, oncoplastic surgery, reconstruction, screening, and survivorship care.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and have completed an approved residency in General Surgery.
Board certification or an equivalent recognized qualification in General Surgery is required. Candidates must also have fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Breast Surgery, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, or Surgical Oncology with a strong focus on breast disease.
Applicants should have at least eight to ten years of post-specialization experience working as a Consultant Breast Surgeon. Extensive expertise in breast cancer surgery, benign breast disease management, lymph node procedures, and oncoplastic techniques is essential.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required.
Experience in a dedicated breast unit, tertiary-care hospital, or internationally accredited healthcare institution is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be female and demonstrate excellent surgical judgment, empathy, communication, documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
