This appointment carries responsibility for the clinical, operational, and strategic
As Head of Department, the physician will connect frontline emergency services with hospital leadership, nursing management, diagnostic teams, critical care, surgery, and other specialties. The role will influence clinical quality, resource use, workforce development, patient flow, and the department\'s readiness to manage high-acuity emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Emergency Medicine Department and maintain high standards of clinical care, safety, and operational performance.
* Diagnose and manage acute medical, surgical, traumatic, cardiac, neurological, and critical emergencies across all age groups.
* Supervise and perform advanced airway management, trauma resuscitation, cardiac life support, and critical care stabilization.
* Make timely decisions regarding emergency treatment, specialist referral, hospital admission, transfer, or discharge.
* Develop and implement departmental policies, clinical pathways, protocols, and evidence-based operating procedures.
* Review emergency department performance and introduce measures that improve patient flow, response times, and care quality.
* Oversee medical and nursing staffing requirements, duty schedules, coverage plans, and departmental resource allocation.
* Monitor physician performance and address clinical, professional, or operational concerns appropriately.
* Lead recruitment input, induction, mentoring, and professional development within the department.
* Supervise consultants, specialists, residents, junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Provide clinical guidance during high-risk cases, major incidents, and complex multidisciplinary emergencies.
* Coordinate closely with intensive care, surgery, cardiology, neurology, radiology, laboratory, and inpatient services.
* Work with hospital leadership to improve emergency pathways and resolve capacity or service-delivery constraints.
* Lead clinical audits, morbidity reviews, case discussions, and quality improvement programs.
* Support continuing medical education activities and maintain a strong culture of clinical learning.
* Prepare departmental reports covering activity, patient outcomes, staffing, incidents, risks, and improvement priorities.
* Represent Emergency Medicine in hospital committees, governance meetings, and external professional forums.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority requirements, hospital policies, ethical standards, and clinical governance obligations.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold a recognized medical degree with approved specialization and board certification or an equivalent qualification in Emergency Medicine.
The position requires 10-15 years of post-specialization experience, including proven leadership as a Head of Department, Clinical Director, Department Chair, or comparable senior emergency medicine leader.
Candidates must demonstrate advanced expertise in trauma care, resuscitation, airway management, cardiac emergencies, critical stabilization, and complex emergency decision-making. Strong experience in departmental governance, workforce management, clinical policy development, and service improvement is also essential.
Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority licensing is required. The preferred candidate will combine decisive clinical judgment with strong organizational, communication, mentoring, and stakeholder management capabilities.
Fluency in English is essential. Arabic or additional language capability would be advantageous.
