Role Context
The Consultant Endocrinologist
A major focus of the position is the management of diabetes and related metabolic complications using contemporary technologies and evidence-based treatment strategies. The consultant also supports patients with thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, bone, and obesity-related disorders while collaborating with other medical specialties to reduce complications and improve long-term health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess patients referred for suspected or established endocrine disorders.
* Diagnose and manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
* Develop individualized diabetes treatment plans based on glycemic status, comorbidities, and lifestyle.
* Initiate and adjust insulin therapy according to clinical requirements.
* Review glucose trends and modify treatment based on continuous glucose monitoring data.
* Support appropriate use of CGM systems in diabetes management.
* Manage patients using insulin pump therapy where clinically indicated.
* Evaluate patients experiencing difficult-to-control blood glucose levels.
* Identify and manage acute and chronic complications associated with diabetes.
* Provide structured counseling on diet, physical activity, weight control, and medication adherence.
* Diagnose and manage hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
* Evaluate thyroid nodules and other thyroid abnormalities.
* Interpret thyroid function tests and relevant imaging investigations.
* Assess adrenal gland disorders affecting hormonal balance.
* Diagnose and manage adrenal insufficiency and other adrenal conditions.
* Evaluate pituitary disorders and associated hormonal abnormalities.
* Coordinate appropriate hormonal testing for suspected pituitary disease.
* Diagnose and manage osteoporosis and metabolic bone disorders.
* Assess fracture risk and determine appropriate preventive or therapeutic interventions.
* Evaluate patients with obesity and metabolic complications.
* Develop medical weight-management strategies where appropriate.
* Coordinate care with bariatric teams for patients requiring multidisciplinary obesity management.
* Investigate complex metabolic abnormalities.
* Conduct comprehensive endocrine evaluations based on symptoms and clinical findings.
* Order and interpret hormonal investigations.
* Review metabolic laboratory results and endocrine function tests.
* Integrate biochemical, clinical, and imaging findings into diagnostic decisions.
* Develop individualized long-term management plans.
* Monitor treatment response and identify medication-related complications.

Ideal Profile
The position requires an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution together with advanced specialist training in Endocrinology.
Candidates should hold Board Certification or Fellowship in Endocrinology from a recognized professional body.
A minimum of 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience is required, preferably within a reputable tertiary-care hospital or academic medical center.
The successful physician should demonstrate strong expertise in diabetes management as well as thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, bone, obesity, and metabolic disorders.
Advanced experience with insulin therapy, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and contemporary diabetes technologies is highly desirable.
Knowledge of insulin pump therapy would provide a significant advantage.
Experience managing obesity and associated metabolic conditions is preferred, particularly when working alongside dietetic and bariatric services.
Academic involvement, research experience, or publications in Endocrinology would be advantageous.
Arabic language capability is preferred, while strong English communication skills are essential for patient counseling and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Candidates should meet the professional licensing or eligibility requirements applicable to consultant-level medical practice in the United Arab Emirates.
