Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist care for patients with acute, chronic, and complex
The role requires close coordination with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, dietitians, pathologists, and other medical specialists. Fluent Arabic communication will support clearer consultations, stronger patient understanding, and more culturally appropriate counseling throughout diagnosis and treatment.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and digestive system disorders.
* Treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
* Assess patients with abdominal pain, altered bowel habits, swallowing difficulties, liver abnormalities, and other digestive symptoms.
* Provide inpatient consultations for acute and medically complex gastroenterology cases.
* Deliver outpatient assessment, treatment, monitoring, and long-term follow-up.
* Perform upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy within approved clinical privileges.
* Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures according to patient needs and clinical findings.
* Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging, pathology results, and endoscopic findings.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, disease severity, comorbidities, and patient preferences.
* Manage chronic liver disease and coordinate specialist hepatology care when required.
* Assess and treat patients with gastrointestinal bleeding and other urgent digestive conditions.
* Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, dietitians, and multidisciplinary medical teams.
* Explain diagnoses, procedures, treatment choices, risks, and follow-up requirements clearly to patients and families.
* Provide culturally sensitive consultations to Arabic-speaking patients.
* Educate patients about digestive health, diet, lifestyle changes, medication adherence, and preventive care.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure reports, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai healthcare regulations, hospital policies, and professional clinical standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, departmental meetings, and patient safety activities.
* Contribute to continuing medical education and remain current with developments in gastroenterology and endoscopy.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess Board Certification, Fellowship, or an equivalent approved qualification in Gastroenterology.
Candidates should have at least five to seven years of post-board Consultant-level experience in a reputable hospital or healthcare institution. Strong practical expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy is essential.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required. Experience in hepatology, chronic liver disease management, or advanced endoscopic procedures would strengthen an application.
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory. Strong English communication is preferred. The successful consultant will demonstrate sound clinical judgment, careful documentation, compassionate patient counseling, and effective multidisciplinary teamwork.
