Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist care for adults with severe, recurrent, unusual, or treatment-resistant
The role also contributes to institutional safety by improving antimicrobial use, supporting outbreak response, and helping prevent healthcare-associated infections. Strong clinical judgment and close multidisciplinary collaboration will directly support better patient outcomes, reduced resistance, and safer hospital practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections in adult patients.
* Provide specialist consultation for complex inpatient and outpatient infectious disease cases.
* Treat sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and other serious infections.
* Manage hospital-acquired and healthcare-associated infections.
* Review patient history, examination findings, cultures, imaging, laboratory results, and antimicrobial exposure.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical evidence, microbiology findings, resistance patterns, and patient risk factors.
* Lead or support antimicrobial stewardship programs that promote appropriate antibiotic selection, dosing, duration, and review.
* Advise clinical teams on de-escalation, escalation, combination therapy, and treatment monitoring.
* Coordinate infectious disease care with intensive care, internal medicine, surgery, microbiology, pharmacy, and nursing teams.
* Provide recommendations for immunocompromised patients and other medically complex populations.
* Participate in infection prevention and control initiatives across clinical departments.
* Support investigation and management of suspected outbreaks.
* Advise on isolation requirements, transmission precautions, screening, and exposure management.
* Contribute to hospital policies, clinical pathways, and evidence-based infectious disease protocols.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, treatment recommendations, antimicrobial plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Monitor treatment response, adverse effects, resistance concerns, and disease progression.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement programs, and patient safety activities.
* Teach and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
* Contribute to research, case presentations, publications, and continuing medical education.
* Follow hospital policies, professional standards, international clinical guidance, and applicable Dubai healthcare regulations.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess Board Certification, Fellowship, or an equivalent specialist qualification in Infectious Diseases.
Accepted credentials may include American Board, UK CCT, Canadian Board, or another recognized equivalent. Candidates should have at least five to seven years of post-specialist experience in a tertiary-care or academic hospital.
Strong capability in managing sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, hospital-acquired infections, and other complex infectious diseases is essential. Experience with antimicrobial stewardship, ICU consultation, outbreak response, and infection control programs is highly preferred.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, communication, documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Experience in research and publication within infectious diseases would strengthen an application. The role also requires confidence working in a multicultural and high-acuity healthcare environment.
