Consultant in Infectious Diseases provides expert assessment and treatment for adult patients with uncomplicated, severe, recurrent, or diagnostically challenging infections. The position combines direct clinical care with antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, outbreak response, and multidisciplinary consultation across hospital services.
The consultant plays an important role in improving treatment accuracy, reducing inappropriate antimicrobial use, limiting healthcare-associated infections, and supporting safe management of critically ill patients. Close collaboration with intensive care, internal medicine, surgery, microbiology, pharmacy, and infection control teams is central to achieving effective clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess adult patients presenting with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases.
* Diagnose bacterial infections affecting single or multiple organ systems.
* Evaluate and manage complex viral infections.
* Diagnose fungal infections requiring specialist medical treatment.
* Assess parasitic diseases according to clinical presentation and exposure history.
* Manage patients with severe systemic infection and sepsis.
* Provide specialist input for complex bloodstream infections.
* Diagnose and manage infective endocarditis.
* Treat osteomyelitis and other deep-seated infections.
* Manage patients with HIV according to current evidence-based treatment standards.
* Evaluate and treat tuberculosis in coordination with appropriate public health and hospital services.
* Assess healthcare-associated and hospital-acquired infections.
* Investigate recurrent or treatment-resistant infections.
* Develop individualized antimicrobial treatment strategies.
