Role Context
This consultant
The role covers elective and emergency neurosurgery, complex operative planning, intensive care follow-up, postoperative rehabilitation, and long-term surveillance. Close collaboration with neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, intensivists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, rehabilitation physicians, oncologists, and other specialists will support safer procedures and stronger neurological and functional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage a broad range of neurological and neurosurgical disorders.
* Evaluate patients with brain tumors, spinal disorders, traumatic brain injuries, cerebrovascular disease, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, and peripheral nerve conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive neurological examinations and review detailed medical histories.
* Request and interpret MRI, CT, angiography, neurophysiological studies, and relevant laboratory investigations.
* Develop individualized surgical and non-surgical treatment plans.
* Perform complex cranial neurosurgical procedures within approved clinical privileges.
* Undertake spinal neurosurgery for degenerative, traumatic, neoplastic, infectious, and deformity-related conditions.
* Perform skull base procedures where appropriately trained and credentialed.
* Manage peripheral nerve disorders requiring surgical intervention.
* Conduct cerebrovascular procedures within the consultant\'s approved scope of practice.
* Apply microsurgical and minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques where clinically appropriate.
* Manage emergency cases involving traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, spinal cord injury, and acute neurological deterioration.
* Provide rapid assessment, stabilization, and operative decision-making for neurosurgical emergencies.
* Conduct comprehensive preoperative consultations and surgical planning.
* Explain diagnoses, treatment options, operative risks, expected outcomes, and recovery requirements.
* Obtain informed consent and document treatment discussions accurately.
* Provide postoperative care and monitor neurological status, intracranial pressure, pain, wound healing, mobility, and complications.
* Supervise patients in intensive care following major neurosurgical procedures.
* Coordinate rehabilitation and recovery plans with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation physicians.
* Collaborate with neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, intensivists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, oncologists, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in tumor boards, spine meetings, trauma reviews, and complex case conferences.
* Educate patients and families about preventive care, recovery, warning signs, and long-term follow-up.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging reviews, consent records, and discharge plans.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority regulations, hospital policies, infection control, and patient safety standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, teaching, and continuing medical education.
* Mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals where applicable.
* Remain current with advances in microsurgery, neuro-oncology, spinal surgery, cerebrovascular care, functional neurosurgery, and navigation technology.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and have completed an approved residency in Neurosurgery.
Board certification or an equivalent recognized qualification in Neurosurgery is required. Fellowship training in Spine Surgery, Skull Base Surgery, Neuro-Oncology, Functional Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, or Cerebrovascular Surgery would strengthen an application.
Candidates should have at least eight to ten years of post-specialization experience working as a Consultant Neurosurgeon. Extensive expertise in complex cranial and spinal procedures, emergency neurosurgery, microsurgery, and postoperative critical care is essential.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required.
Previous experience in a tertiary-care or internationally accredited healthcare institution is strongly preferred. The successful surgeon will demonstrate advanced clinical judgment, precise operative technique, leadership, compassionate communication, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
