Role Context

This consultant appointment provides specialist care for patients with congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic,


and deformity-related spinal conditions. The surgeon will combine detailed clinical and neurological assessment with advanced imaging to determine whether conservative management or surgical intervention offers the most appropriate outcome.

The role covers adult and pediatric spine care, complex operative planning, emergency trauma management, revision surgery, and long-term rehabilitation. Close collaboration with neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain specialists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals will support safer treatment, improved mobility, pain reduction, and functional recovery.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and manage congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and deformity-related spinal disorders.
* Assess adult and pediatric patients with spinal pain, instability, neurological symptoms, trauma, and functional limitations.
* Conduct detailed medical history reviews, physical examinations, and neurological assessments.
* Request and interpret X-rays, CT scans, MRI studies, bone scans, and other relevant investigations.
* Develop individualized treatment plans using surgical and non-surgical management approaches.
* Provide conservative treatment recommendations, including medication, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, activity modification, and specialist referral.
* Perform minimally invasive spine surgery within approved clinical privileges.
* Conduct spinal decompression procedures for appropriate indications.
* Perform spinal fusion and stabilization procedures.
* Undertake disc replacement surgery for suitable patients.
* Perform spinal deformity correction for congenital, developmental, or acquired conditions.
* Manage complex and revision spine surgery cases.
* Treat spinal trauma and emergency cases in accordance with established clinical protocols.
* Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments and surgical planning.
* Explain diagnoses, treatment alternatives, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and recovery requirements.
* Obtain informed consent and maintain accurate documentation of treatment discussions.
* Provide postoperative care and monitor neurological status, pain, wound healing, mobility, and complications.
* Coordinate rehabilitation and recovery plans with physiotherapists and rehabilitation physicians.
* Collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain management specialists, radiologists, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in complex case conferences and spine multidisciplinary meetings.
* Educate patients and families about preventive spine care, activity modification, recovery, and long-term management.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging reviews, consent records, and follow-up plans.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority requirements, hospital policies, patient safety standards, and infection control procedures.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, and continuing medical education.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, and allied healthcare professionals where applicable.
* Remain current with advances in spinal biomechanics, minimally invasive techniques, navigation, deformity correction, and revision surgery.

Ideal Profile

Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and have completed an approved residency in Orthopedic Surgery.

Board certification or an equivalent recognized qualification in Orthopedic Surgery is required. Candidates must also have completed fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Spine Surgery.

Applicants should have at least eight to ten years of post-specialization experience, including substantial responsibility for complex spine surgery. Proven expertise in minimally invasive procedures, spinal fusion, decompression, disc replacement, deformity correction, trauma management, and revision surgery is essential.

A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required.

Additional certification in minimally invasive spine surgery or advanced spinal techniques would strengthen an application. Previous experience in a tertiary-care or internationally accredited healthcare institution is preferred.

The successful surgeon will demonstrate advanced clinical judgment, precise operative technique, leadership, compassionate patient communication, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
