Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist care for
The physician will combine detailed clinical assessment with pharmacological treatment, image-guided interventions, rehabilitation planning, and patient education. Close collaboration with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, and other specialties will support coordinated treatment and sustainable functional improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and diagnose patients presenting with acute, chronic, neuropathic, musculoskeletal, spinal, joint, and cancer-related pain.
* Conduct detailed medical, functional, neurological, and pain-history evaluations.
* Review imaging, laboratory investigations, previous procedures, medication history, and treatment response.
* Develop individualized pain management plans based on diagnosis, severity, functional limitations, and patient goals.
* Prescribe and monitor appropriate pharmacological treatments.
* Incorporate rehabilitative, behavioral, physical, and non-pharmacological methods into care plans.
* Perform nerve blocks within approved clinical privileges.
* Conduct epidural steroid injections using appropriate image guidance.
* Perform radiofrequency ablation for suitable pain conditions.
* Carry out joint injections and other approved interventional pain procedures.
* Use fluoroscopy, ultrasound, or other imaging techniques to improve procedural accuracy and safety.
* Provide pre-procedure assessment and explain treatment benefits, risks, alternatives, and expected outcomes.
* Deliver post-procedure monitoring and follow-up care.
* Monitor pain scores, mobility, sleep, medication use, function, and quality-of-life outcomes.
* Modify treatment plans when clinical progress, side effects, or functional needs change.
* Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, neurologists, oncologists, rehabilitation physicians, and physiotherapists.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions for complex or treatment-resistant pain conditions.
* Educate patients and families about medication safety, pacing, movement, home care, and lifestyle modification.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure records, consent documentation, prescriptions, and follow-up plans.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians and allied healthcare professionals where required.
* Follow patient safety requirements, infection control procedures, hospital policies, and applicable Dubai healthcare regulations.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and have completed an accredited residency in Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, or another relevant specialty.
Fellowship or formal subspecialty certification in Pain Management or Pain Medicine is required. Candidates must also possess board certification in their primary specialty and pain medicine.
A minimum of three to five years of post-board experience as a Consultant in Pain Management is required. Applicants should demonstrate broad experience treating acute and chronic pain, with strong capability in interventional procedures and image-guided techniques.
Eligibility for a Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence is required. Candidates holding Department of Health or Ministry of Health and Prevention eligibility who can obtain the appropriate Dubai licence may also be considered.
The successful consultant will demonstrate strong procedural judgment, patient counseling ability, multidisciplinary teamwork, and a consistent commitment to evidence-based care and patient safety.
