The Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist provides specialist anesthesia care across elective, urgent and emergency
procedures involving pediatric patients of different ages and clinical complexity. The role begins with careful pre-anesthetic evaluation and continues through intraoperative management, recovery and escalation of care when complications arise.
Working closely with surgeons, pediatricians, intensivists, nurses and other perioperative professionals, the consultant helps reduce anesthesia-related risk while supporting safe procedural outcomes. The position also contributes to emergency response, clinical education, departmental governance and continuous improvement in pediatric anesthesia practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide anesthesia care for neonates, infants, children and adolescents undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures.
* Conduct detailed pre-anesthetic assessments before elective and emergency interventions.
* Evaluate medical history, developmental factors, current medications and relevant investigations.
* Develop individualized anesthetic plans according to procedure type, patient condition and perioperative risk.
* Select appropriate anesthesia techniques based on age, physiology and anticipated surgical requirements.
* Manage induction, maintenance and emergence from anesthesia.
* Monitor cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological status throughout procedures.
* Use advanced monitoring technologies when required for high-risk pediatric patients.
* Maintain airway patency and provide advanced pediatric airway management.
* Manage ventilation and oxygenation during anesthesia.
* Administer anesthetic agents, analgesics and adjunct medications safely.
* Respond promptly to hemodynamic instability, difficult airway events and other anesthesia emergencies.
* Coordinate safe anesthetic management for urgent and emergency surgery.
* Support neonatal and pediatric patients with complex medical or surgical conditions.
* Participate in pediatric code blue and emergency response activities.
* Assist with resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill pediatric patients.
* Manage post-anesthesia recovery and identify early postoperative complications.

A minimum of 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric anesthesia is expected, ideally within a tertiary hospital managing complex surgical and critical care cases.
