Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist provides high-level critical care for children with severe cardiac conditions requiring continuous monitoring, advanced life support and multidisciplinary treatment. The role covers patients before and after congenital heart surgery as well as children undergoing complex interventional cardiology procedures.
The position requires rapid clinical decision-making, advanced hemodynamic interpretation and close coordination with pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, anesthesia, perfusion and specialist nursing teams. The consultant plays a central role in stabilizing high-risk patients, managing life-support technologies and guiding individualized care plans within the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage critically ill neonates, infants and children admitted to the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
* Provide pre-operative stabilization for patients awaiting congenital heart surgery.
* Lead post-operative intensive care following complex pediatric cardiac procedures.
* Manage children with congenital and acquired cardiac disease requiring advanced critical care support.
* Coordinate care for patients following interventional cardiology procedures.
* Initiate and manage ECMO support according to clinical indications and approved protocols.
* Oversee mechanical ventilation strategies for pediatric cardiac patients with respiratory compromise.
* Apply advanced hemodynamic monitoring to guide fluid, vasoactive and circulatory management.
* Respond promptly to cardiac emergencies and acute clinical deterioration.
* Interpret complex physiological and diagnostic information to support treatment decisions.
* Review echocardiography findings in conjunction with cardiology and surgical teams.
* Interpret hemodynamic studies relevant to cardiac intensive care management.
* Lead multidisciplinary ward rounds and establish daily treatment priorities.
* Develop individualized care plans based on cardiac anatomy, surgical status and physiological response.
* Collaborate closely with pediatric cardiologists on diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.
* Work with cardiac surgeons to optimize perioperative management and recovery.

Ideal Profile
The position requires an MBBS, MD or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Candidates should hold Board Certification in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Anesthesiology together with dedicated fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care.
A minimum of 8-10 years of post-specialization experience is required, preferably gained within a high-volume pediatric cardiac center managing complex congenital heart disease and post-operative cardiac patients.
The successful consultant should demonstrate advanced expertise in ECMO, mechanical ventilation, cardiac emergencies, hemodynamic monitoring and post-operative pediatric cardiac intensive care.
Strong familiarity with congenital heart disease and the physiological challenges associated with complex cardiac surgery is essential.
