A leading tertiary-care hospital is hiring an experienced consultant to manage complex cardiac emergencies, support congenital heart surgery pathways, and help lead the continued development of its Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Role Context

This consultant appointment provides advanced critical care for pediatric cardiac patients before surgery,


following complex congenital heart procedures, during interventional cardiology treatment, and throughout life-threatening cardiac emergencies. The physician will manage rapidly changing clinical conditions requiring precise interpretation of hemodynamic, respiratory, imaging, and laboratory data.

The role combines direct patient care with PCICU leadership, multidisciplinary coordination, clinical pathway development, staff mentoring, and quality improvement. Strong decision-making and effective collaboration will support safer postoperative recovery, improved cardiac function, efficient escalation of care, and better long-term outcomes for children with complex heart disease.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide comprehensive intensive care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital or acquired cardiac disease.
* Stabilize and optimize high-risk pediatric patients before cardiac surgery or interventional procedures.
* Manage postoperative recovery following congenital heart surgery.
* Deliver critical care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology treatment.
* Diagnose and manage heart failure, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, low cardiac output, and other complex cardiac conditions.
* Provide advanced mechanical ventilation and respiratory support.
* Manage extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for eligible patients within approved clinical privileges.
* Apply invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring to guide treatment decisions.
* Interpret echocardiography, pressure measurements, cardiac imaging, laboratory findings, and other complex diagnostic data.
* Lead daily Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit rounds.
* Develop coordinated treatment plans with pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, nurses, and allied professionals.
* Provide on-call coverage and senior clinical leadership during pediatric cardiac emergencies.
* Support resuscitation, stabilization, escalation, and transfer decisions for critically ill cardiac patients.
* Monitor postoperative bleeding, rhythm disturbances, perfusion, fluid balance, organ function, and surgical complications.
* Communicate clinical status, treatment options, prognosis, and care priorities clearly to families.
* Support parents and caregivers through complex decisions, long-term planning, and post-discharge preparation.
* Promote compassionate and culturally sensitive family-centered care.
* Develop and update PCICU protocols, pathways, escalation criteria, and patient-safety procedures.
* Contribute to the strategic growth and operational development of pediatric cardiac intensive care services.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, and quality improvement projects.
* Mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and critical care nursing staff.
* Teach medical students and trainees through bedside education, formal sessions, and simulation activities.
* Contribute to clinical research, continuing medical education, publications, and professional conferences.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, intensive care records, treatment plans, procedures, and handover documentation.
* Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical governance standards, patient safety requirements, and Dubai healthcare regulations.

Ideal Profile

Applicants must hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

Board certification is required in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Anesthesiology, or an equivalent specialty, together with recognized fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care.

Candidates should have at least eight to ten years of post-specialization experience, including established consultant-level practice in a high-volume pediatric cardiac center.

Advanced expertise is required in congenital heart disease, postoperative cardiac intensive care, heart failure, arrhythmias, mechanical ventilation, ECMO, hemodynamic monitoring, and pediatric cardiac emergency management.

Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority Consultant licensure is essential. The successful physician will demonstrate confident leadership, precise clinical judgment, compassionate family communication, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration.

Fluency in English is required. Arabic language capability would be advantageous.
