Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist surgical care for children affected by craniosynostosis,
cleft-related deformities, facial asymmetry, congenital skull abnormalities, craniofacial trauma, and other complex reconstructive conditions. The surgeon will assess each patient\'s anatomy, development, function, and long-term needs before creating an individualized surgical pathway.
Successful care requires coordinated planning across several specialties and may involve treatment over multiple stages of childhood. The consultant will therefore work closely with neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pediatric ENT, orthodontics, speech therapy, pediatrics, radiology, anesthesia, and rehabilitation teams to achieve safe and sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired craniofacial abnormalities in pediatric patients.
* Conduct detailed clinical assessments and review imaging, developmental history, functional concerns, and previous procedures.
* Perform complex corrective and reconstructive craniofacial surgery within approved clinical privileges.
* Treat craniosynostosis and associated skull growth abnormalities.
* Manage cleft-related craniofacial deformities requiring advanced reconstruction.
* Correct facial asymmetry and congenital skull or facial abnormalities.
* Perform craniofacial trauma reconstruction for pediatric patients.
* Contribute to advanced pediatric skull base and related reconstructive procedures where clinically appropriate.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for new, follow-up, and postoperative craniofacial cases.
* Develop staged surgical and long-term reconstructive care plans based on growth and developmental needs.
* Participate in multidisciplinary craniofacial clinics, case conferences, and surgical planning meetings.
* Coordinate treatment with neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, pediatric ENT specialists, orthodontists, speech therapists, and pediatricians.
* Review operative risks, treatment alternatives, anticipated outcomes, and recovery requirements with patients and families.
* Provide comprehensive preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care.
* Monitor wound healing, neurological status, facial growth, airway function, speech development, and aesthetic outcomes.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, imaging reviews, and follow-up plans.
* Follow patient safety, infection prevention, clinical governance, and quality assurance standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, outcome reviews, research, teaching, and continuing medical education.
* Support the development of evidence-based protocols for pediatric craniofacial care.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess Board Certification, Fellowship, or an equivalent approved qualification in Plastic Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery, or Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery.
Candidates should have at least five to seven years of post-board Consultant-level experience in pediatric craniofacial surgery within a tertiary-care, academic, or specialist children\'s hospital.
Strong expertise in craniosynostosis correction, cleft-related reconstruction, facial asymmetry, craniofacial trauma, congenital skull abnormalities, and complex pediatric reconstructive surgery is essential.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required. Experience within an established cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary program is highly preferred.
