Role Context
This consultant will provide senior clinical coverage within a Pediatric Emergency
Department managing children with acute medical, surgical, traumatic, and potentially life-threatening conditions. The physician will lead rapid assessment, stabilization, emergency procedures, and specialist referrals while maintaining a calm, child-focused approach.
Beyond direct patient care, the role contributes to departmental development through clinical pathway design, governance reviews, staff mentoring, research, and service improvement. Effective leadership will support safer care, efficient patient flow, stronger clinical standards, and better experiences for children and their families.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess infants, children, and adolescents presenting with urgent and emergency health conditions.
* Diagnose and manage acute medical, surgical, and trauma-related pediatric presentations.
* Treat respiratory distress, seizures, dehydration, serious infections, allergic reactions, and other high-risk conditions.
* Lead pediatric resuscitation and stabilization during critical emergencies.
* Perform advanced airway management, emergency vascular access, and other life-saving interventions.
* Carry out lumbar puncture, wound repair, fracture reduction, splinting, and procedural sedation when clinically indicated.
* Request and interpret laboratory investigations, medical imaging, and bedside diagnostic tests.
* Coordinate care with pediatricians, surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and other emergency physicians.
* Determine appropriate admission, transfer, observation, specialist referral, or discharge plans.
* Maintain safe and efficient patient flow throughout the Pediatric Emergency Department.
* Develop and update pediatric emergency protocols, clinical pathways, and evidence-based guidelines.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits, and governance reviews.
* Identify service risks and contribute to measurable quality improvement initiatives.
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, nurses, and other clinical team members.
* Explain diagnoses, procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up requirements clearly to families.
* Support parents and caregivers during critical situations and difficult clinical decisions.
* Maintain a culturally sensitive, reassuring, and child-friendly care environment.
* Teach medical students, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary professionals.
* Contribute to clinical research, case presentations, conferences, and continuing medical education.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure records, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Board certification is required in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics with fellowship training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, or Emergency Medicine with an approved pediatric specialization. Qualifications may include American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or an equivalent recognized credential.
Candidates should have at least eight to ten years of post-specialization experience, including established consultant-level practice. Advanced capability in pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, procedural sedation, emergency stabilization, and acute clinical decision-making is essential.
Eligibility for licensing with the Dubai Health Authority is required. The ideal consultant will also demonstrate strong leadership, compassionate family communication, multidisciplinary teamwork, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Fluency in English is essential. Arabic language capability would be advantageous.
