Role Context
This consultant appointment provides senior clinical
The role also supports emergency preparedness, clinical governance, infection control, staff development, and departmental quality improvement. Strong leadership and rapid clinical judgment will help improve pediatric survival, patient flow, treatment consistency, and family confidence during critical situations.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess infants, children, and adolescents presenting with urgent and emergency medical conditions.
* Diagnose and manage pediatric medical, surgical, and trauma-related emergencies.
* Provide immediate stabilization for critically ill or injured pediatric patients.
* Lead pediatric resuscitation and coordinate emergency team responses.
* Perform airway management, endotracheal intubation, vascular access, and other life-saving interventions.
* Conduct lumbar puncture, procedural sedation, trauma management, and approved emergency procedures.
* Treat respiratory distress, seizures, severe infections, dehydration, allergic reactions, shock, and acute neurological conditions.
* Request and interpret laboratory investigations, diagnostic imaging, and bedside tests.
* Develop rapid treatment plans based on clinical severity, age, medical history, and investigation results.
* Coordinate care with pediatric subspecialists, intensivists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other emergency physicians.
* Determine whether patients require admission, intensive care, transfer, observation, or safe discharge.
* Supervise junior doctors, residents, and other medical staff within the emergency department.
* Provide clear clinical guidance during high-risk, complex, and rapidly changing cases.
* Maintain complete and timely medical records, procedure notes, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
* Follow Dubai healthcare regulations, hospital protocols, professional standards, and documentation requirements.
* Participate in emergency preparedness exercises, disaster response planning, and major incident management.
* Support infection prevention, isolation procedures, and patient safety measures.
* Contribute to clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement programs, and governance meetings.
* Participate in medical teaching, research, case presentations, and continuing medical education.
* Communicate diagnoses, procedures, risks, and follow-up requirements clearly to parents and caregivers.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess Board Certification, Fellowship, or an equivalent qualification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Candidates trained in Emergency Medicine with an approved specialization in Pediatric Emergency Medicine may also be considered. At least five to seven years of post-board Consultant-level experience within a tertiary-care pediatric emergency department is required.
Strong expertise in pediatric resuscitation, airway management, trauma, critical stabilization, procedural sedation, and emergency clinical decision-making is essential. Previous experience in a pediatric trauma center, academic hospital, pediatric intensive care environment, or disaster medicine program would be advantageous.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required. Certifications in PALS, ACLS, and ATLS are preferred.
The successful consultant will demonstrate decisive leadership, calm communication, accurate documentation, and the ability to work efficiently with multidisciplinary teams in a multicultural clinical environment.
