Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist care for pediatric patients with acute, chronic,
The role requires close collaboration with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, dietitians, radiologists, pathologists, nurses, and other specialists. Arabic fluency will support clear communication with children and families, stronger treatment understanding, and culturally sensitive long-term care.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal, hepatology, pancreatic, feeding, and nutritional disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.
* Treat inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, and related digestive conditions.
* Assess and manage pediatric liver disease and abnormal liver function.
* Evaluate feeding difficulties, poor growth, nutritional deficiencies, and gastrointestinal symptoms affecting development.
* Conduct comprehensive medical assessments and review growth, nutrition, symptoms, family history, and previous treatment.
* Request and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, pathology findings, and other gastrointestinal investigations.
* Perform pediatric upper gastrointestinal endoscopy within approved clinical privileges.
* Conduct pediatric colonoscopy for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic indications.
* Obtain biopsies and review findings with pathology and multidisciplinary teams.
* Develop individualized medical, procedural, and nutritional treatment plans.
* Prescribe and monitor medications used in pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology.
* Monitor treatment response, nutritional status, growth, symptoms, and potential complications.
* Provide inpatient consultations for complex and acute pediatric gastrointestinal cases.
* Lead outpatient clinics for chronic digestive, liver, and nutritional conditions.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, surgeons, dietitians, radiologists, pathologists, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Educate patients and families about gastrointestinal health, medication, nutrition, preventive care, and long-term management.
* Communicate diagnoses, procedure findings, treatment options, and follow-up requirements clearly and compassionately.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, endoscopy reports, pathology records, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority requirements, international clinical standards, and hospital policies.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education.
* Remain current with advances in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and endoscopic practice.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold a recognized medical degree and have completed specialist training in Pediatrics followed by subspecialty training in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
American Board Certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent recognized qualification may also be considered where licensing requirements are satisfied.
A minimum of five years of consultant-level experience in Pediatric Gastroenterology is required. Strong expertise in pediatric endoscopy, colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, nutritional disorders, and advanced gastrointestinal care is essential.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is preferred.
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory. Strong English communication is also required for clinical documentation and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The successful consultant will demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, procedural competence, leadership, family communication, and patient-management skills.
