Role Context

This consultant appointment provides specialist orthopaedic care for pediatric patients


with congenital, developmental, traumatic, spinal, and neuromuscular conditions. The surgeon will assess each child\'s growth, skeletal development, functional limitations, pain, mobility, and rehabilitation needs before recommending conservative or operative treatment.

The role combines outpatient consultation, inpatient management, emergency trauma care, deformity correction, reconstructive surgery, and long-term rehabilitation planning. Close collaboration with pediatricians, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, radiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing teams will support safe treatment and stronger functional outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and manage musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
* Evaluate congenital deformities, scoliosis, hip disorders, limb abnormalities, fractures, sports injuries, and neuromuscular conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and review developmental, functional, and medical histories.
* Interpret radiographs, CT scans, MRI studies, and other relevant diagnostic investigations.
* Develop individualized surgical and non-surgical treatment plans.
* Perform pediatric orthopaedic trauma procedures within approved clinical privileges.
* Undertake deformity correction and reconstructive surgery for suitable patients.
* Perform pediatric spinal procedures where appropriately trained and credentialed.
* Manage fractures, dislocations, growth plate injuries, and emergency musculoskeletal trauma.
* Assess and treat limb-length differences, angular deformities, and congenital skeletal abnormalities.
* Provide inpatient consultations and oversee postoperative management.
* Lead outpatient clinics for initial assessment, treatment review, and long-term follow-up.
* Coordinate rehabilitation plans with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation physicians.
* Monitor healing, mobility, alignment, growth, pain, and functional recovery.
* Adjust treatment and rehabilitation plans according to clinical progress and developmental needs.
* Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, expected outcomes, risks, and recovery.
* Educate caregivers about postoperative care, activity restrictions, mobility aids, exercises, and follow-up requirements.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, radiologists, rehabilitation specialists, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in complex case meetings and pediatric rehabilitation planning.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging reviews, consent records, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control, clinical governance, and patient safety standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, teaching, and continuing medical education.
* Remain current with advances in pediatric trauma, deformity correction, spine surgery, and reconstructive orthopaedics.

Ideal Profile

Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess board certification or fellowship training in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Recognized subspecialty training in Pediatric Orthopaedics is required. Candidates should have at least five to seven years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric orthopaedic surgery within a tertiary-care or academic hospital.

Strong expertise in pediatric trauma, congenital deformities, limb reconstruction, neuromuscular orthopaedics, and complex corrective procedures is essential.

Eligibility for a Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence is required. Experience in pediatric spine surgery, advanced deformity correction, or multidisciplinary pediatric rehabilitation would strengthen an application.

The successful surgeon will demonstrate excellent operative judgment, compassionate family communication, careful treatment planning, and effective multidisciplinary teamwork. Research publications, academic activity, and teaching experience would be advantageous.
