The role combines medical management, functional assessment, spasticity treatment, assistive technology, therapy coordination, and long-term family guidance. Close collaboration with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, orthotists, nurses, and other specialists will help children improve mobility, independence, participation, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate pediatric patients with physical disabilities, developmental delays, neurological disorders, and rehabilitation needs.
* Diagnose and manage congenital, acquired, musculoskeletal, and neurodevelopmental conditions affecting function.
* Treat children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury.
* Manage rehabilitation needs associated with autism-related motor disorders and developmental delay.
* Conduct detailed assessments of mobility, muscle tone, strength, balance, coordination, communication, and self-care ability.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation plans based on each child\'s diagnosis, functional priorities, and medical needs.
* Establish measurable short-term and long-term treatment goals.
* Lead multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs involving physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, and related services.
* Coordinate therapy schedules and ensure that all disciplines work toward consistent functional objectives.
* Provide medical management of spasticity and related movement limitations.
* Perform botulinum toxin injections within approved clinical privileges.
* Recommend orthotic devices, mobility aids, adaptive equipment, and positioning supports.
* Conduct mobility and functional assessments and review assistive technology requirements.
* Use ultrasound guidance for relevant rehabilitation procedures where appropriately trained.
* Monitor patient progress and revise treatment plans according to functional outcomes and clinical changes.
* Counsel parents and caregivers regarding home exercises, positioning, mobility support, equipment use, and long-term care.
* Support families in understanding realistic rehabilitation goals and expected progress.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure records, functional assessments, and treatment plans.
* Follow hospital policies, clinical governance requirements, patient safety standards, and applicable Dubai healthcare regulations.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement activities, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education.
* Contribute to service development and professional training within the pediatric rehabilitation team.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and have completed approved residency and fellowship training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Board certification or an equivalent specialist qualification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is required, together with subspecialty expertise in Pediatric Rehabilitation.
Candidates should have at least five to seven years of post-board experience in pediatric rehabilitation and PMR practice. Strong capability in pediatric neurorehabilitation, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, spasticity management, functional assessment, and multidisciplinary treatment planning is essential.
Eligibility for a Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence is required. Experience with advanced rehabilitation technologies, assistive devices, botulinum toxin treatment, and ultrasound-guided procedures would strengthen an application.
The successful consultant will demonstrate strong clinical leadership, compassionate family communication, evidence-based decision-making, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural rehabilitation environment.
