Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist rehabilitation care for children affected by cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neuromuscular disorders, mobility
The role coordinates physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing, and other specialist services. Through structured monitoring and family education, the consultant will help children achieve greater independence, participate more fully in daily activities, and maintain progress beyond the clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation assessments covering mobility, muscle tone, strength, coordination, communication, self-care, and developmental function.
* Diagnose and manage rehabilitation needs associated with cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neuromuscular disease, neurological disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation plans based on clinical findings, functional limitations, family priorities, and achievable treatment goals.
* Establish short-term and long-term targets for mobility, independence, participation, communication, and quality of life.
* Lead multidisciplinary care involving physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
* Coordinate therapy schedules and ensure each discipline works toward consistent rehabilitation objectives.
* Monitor clinical and functional progress using appropriate assessment tools and outcome measures.
* Modify treatment intensity, therapy goals, equipment recommendations, or follow-up plans when patient needs change.
* Assess the need for mobility aids, orthotic devices, adaptive equipment, and home modifications.
* Provide medical oversight for rehabilitation interventions and manage associated clinical concerns.
* Educate parents and caregivers about home exercises, positioning, mobility support, communication strategies, and daily care.
* Encourage family participation in treatment planning and long-term rehabilitation decisions.
* Maintain accurate consultation records, functional assessments, treatment plans, and progress documentation.
* Ensure rehabilitation services comply with Dubai healthcare requirements, hospital policies, and patient safety standards.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, clinical audits, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support teaching and professional development across the pediatric rehabilitation team.
* Promote evidence-based, compassionate, and culturally sensitive rehabilitation care.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold a recognized medical degree and an approved Consultant qualification in Pediatric Rehabilitation, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, Neurology, Orthopedics, or a related specialty with substantial pediatric rehabilitation experience.
A minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong capability in managing cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neurological disability, neuromuscular disorders, and pediatric mobility limitations.
Eligibility for a Dubai Health Authority or Department of Health medical licence is essential. The successful consultant will combine sound clinical judgment with effective team leadership, organized treatment planning, and sensitive communication with children and families.
Fluency in English is required. Arabic language capability would be advantageous.
