The Consultant in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is responsible for medically directing rehabilitation programs for patients whose injuries, neurological conditions or chronic illnesses limit movement and everyday independence. The consultant evaluates functional impairment, establishes realistic recovery objectives and coordinates treatment across multiple rehabilitation disciplines.
By combining medical management with structured therapy and assistive technologies, the physician helps patients regain practical abilities, reduce secondary complications and achieve the highest possible level of independence. The role also strengthens rehabilitation service quality through clinical leadership, outcome monitoring, staff education and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform detailed medical and functional evaluations for patients referred to rehabilitation services.
* Assess mobility limitations, muscle weakness, pain, balance problems and restrictions in daily activities.
* Evaluate musculoskeletal injuries requiring coordinated rehabilitation management.
* Manage rehabilitation needs associated with neurological disease or injury.
* Assess patients living with chronic disability and determine appropriate functional interventions.
* Establish measurable rehabilitation goals according to diagnosis, prognosis and individual priorities.
* Create personalized treatment programs focused on mobility, independence and quality of life.
* Review functional progress and modify rehabilitation plans as patient needs change.
* Coordinate exercise-based rehabilitation with physiotherapy teams.
* Incorporate appropriate manual therapy strategies into multidisciplinary treatment plans.
* Evaluate the clinical suitability of electrotherapy and other therapeutic modalities.
* Recommend mobility aids, orthotic equipment and other assistive devices where required.
* Prescribe functional training to improve performance of daily living activities.

Candidates should have at least five years of post-certification clinical experience, ideally gained within a hospital, specialist rehabilitation center or multidisciplinary rehabilitation service.
The successful consultant should demonstrate strong expertise in managing functional limitations caused by musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, chronic disease and physical disability.
Practical knowledge of modern rehabilitation technologies, assistive devices, therapeutic exercise, functional training and evidence-based rehabilitation methods is essential.
