The role requires close collaboration with oncologists, breast surgeons, head and neck surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, trauma specialists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, rehabilitation professionals, and nursing teams. Precise surgical planning and coordinated postoperative care will support flap viability, wound healing, functional recovery, and long-term patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform complex microvascular and reconstructive surgical procedures within approved clinical privileges.
* Assess patients requiring breast, head and neck, limb, trauma, or soft tissue reconstruction.
* Develop individualized surgical plans based on diagnosis, tissue requirements, vascular anatomy, function, and patient goals.
* Perform free tissue transfer and microsurgical reconstruction where clinically indicated.
* Undertake breast reconstruction following oncologic surgery or other approved indications.
* Provide reconstructive treatment for head and neck defects.
* Manage limb reconstruction following trauma, tumor resection, infection, or tissue loss.
* Treat complex wounds and soft tissue defects using appropriate reconstructive techniques.
* Conduct detailed preoperative assessments and review imaging, laboratory findings, comorbidities, and surgical risks.
* Explain treatment options, expected outcomes, limitations, donor-site considerations, complications, and recovery requirements.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
* Coordinate operative timing with oncology, trauma, orthopaedic, breast, and head and neck services.
* Provide postoperative care and monitor flap perfusion, wound healing, infection risk, pain, and functional recovery.
* Respond promptly to suspected vascular compromise or other postoperative complications.
* Plan rehabilitation with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and relevant specialists.
* Provide outpatient follow-up and monitor long-term functional and aesthetic outcomes.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical governance requirements, infection control, and patient safety standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity reviews, and departmental meetings.
* Contribute to teaching, mentoring, professional development, and continuing medical education.
* Remain current with advances in microsurgery, free flap reconstruction, perforator flaps, nerve repair, and reconstructive techniques.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold a recognized medical degree and possess an approved Specialist or Consultant qualification in Plastic Surgery.
Fellowship training or equivalent certification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is required. Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience in microvascular and complex reconstructive surgery.
Strong expertise in breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, limb salvage, trauma reconstruction, free tissue transfer, flap monitoring, and postoperative complication management is essential.
Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority Consultant licensure is required. The successful surgeon will demonstrate excellent operative judgment, precise microsurgical technique, compassionate patient communication, and effective multidisciplinary teamwork.
