Role Context
This consultant appointment provides specialist psychiatric care for patients with acute, chronic, complex, and recurring mental health
The role requires close collaboration with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Fluency in Arabic and English will support culturally sensitive communication, stronger therapeutic relationships, informed decision-making, and effective family engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with psychiatric and behavioral health disorders.
* Treat anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and related mental health conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations covering symptoms, medical history, psychosocial factors, risk, and functional impact.
* Develop individualized treatment and long-term management plans.
* Prescribe, review, and monitor psychiatric medication.
* Evaluate treatment effectiveness, side effects, adherence, and clinical progress.
* Provide psychotherapy, counseling, and behavioral interventions within approved clinical privileges.
* Manage psychiatric cases in inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Conduct risk assessments involving self-harm, suicide, aggression, vulnerability, and safeguarding concerns.
* Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care when required.
* Coordinate admission, observation, escalation, discharge, and follow-up plans.
* Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in complex case conferences and coordinated care planning.
* Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, medication, relapse prevention, and ongoing support.
* Communicate sensitively with Arabic-speaking and English-speaking patients and caregivers.
* Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional, ethical, and legal standards.
* Complete accurate consultation notes, mental state examinations, risk assessments, prescriptions, and treatment plans.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority regulations, hospital policies, and clinical governance requirements.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, research, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education.
* Remain current with developments in psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and behavioral healthcare.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess board certification, fellowship training, or an equivalent approved specialist qualification in Psychiatry.
Candidates should have at least five to seven years of post-board experience working at Consultant level within a reputable hospital, psychiatric facility, or mental health center.
Strong expertise in adult psychiatry, psychopharmacology, crisis intervention, inpatient care, outpatient treatment, and complex behavioral health management is essential.
Eligibility for a Dubai Health Authority Consultant licence is required. Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English is mandatory.
The successful physician will demonstrate compassionate communication, sound clinical judgment, emotional resilience, careful risk assessment, and effective multidisciplinary teamwork. Experience in community psychiatry, psychotherapy programs, research, or academic medicine would strengthen an application.
