The Specialist Neonatologist

Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist medical care for premature, term, and high-risk newborn infants.
* Assess neonates immediately after delivery when specialist evaluation is required.
* Manage critically ill newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
* Provide medical oversight for appropriate patients within the newborn nursery.
* Diagnose and treat common and complex neonatal medical conditions.
* Manage premature infants requiring intensive monitoring and supportive care.
* Assess respiratory distress in newborns and initiate appropriate treatment.
* Manage neonatal respiratory disorders according to evidence-based protocols.
* Evaluate newborns with suspected congenital abnormalities.
* Coordinate specialist investigations for congenital conditions.

* Identify signs of sepsis and initiate timely investigation and treatment.
