The role requires close collaboration with neurologists, intensivists, orthopedic surgeons, oncologists, rehabilitation physicians, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists. Timely clinical decisions and technically precise interventions will help reduce neurological damage, improve recovery, and support better long-term patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate and diagnose patients presenting with cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders.
* Perform detailed neurological assessments and determine suitable surgical or non-surgical management.
* Carry out elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures within the approved specialist scope.
* Manage patients with brain tumors, intracranial hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and cerebrovascular disorders.
* Treat traumatic brain injuries and acute spinal injuries requiring urgent intervention.
* Diagnose and manage degenerative spine conditions, disc disease, spinal trauma, and nerve compression disorders.
* Provide surgical care for selected peripheral nerve conditions.
* Interpret CT scans, MRI studies, angiography, and neurophysiological investigations.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, imaging, risks, and expected outcomes.
* Conduct preoperative assessments and explain procedures, risks, alternatives, and recovery expectations to patients and families.
* Deliver postoperative care and monitor neurological status, wound healing, pain control, and recovery.
* Participate in emergency, trauma, and on-call rotations when required.
* Coordinate referrals and treatment with neurology, critical care, orthopedics, oncology, radiology, and rehabilitation teams.
* Attend multidisciplinary case conferences and contribute specialist recommendations.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, discharge summaries, and follow-up plans.
* Follow hospital protocols, patient safety standards, infection control requirements, and regulatory obligations.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement programs, and departmental meetings.
* Maintain current professional knowledge through continuing medical education and developments in neurosurgical practice.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and have completed approved specialist training in Neurosurgery.
A minimum of three years of post-specialization experience as a Specialist Neurosurgeon in a reputable hospital is required. Candidates should demonstrate practical expertise in cranial and spinal neurosurgery, emergency decision-making, operative care, and postoperative management.
Western medical education or clinical experience gained in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or an equivalent healthcare system is preferred.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Specialist licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is required. The successful candidate should communicate clearly, exercise sound clinical judgment, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
