Role Context

The Specialist NICU provides focused medical care


for premature, low-birth-weight and critically ill newborns who require continuous monitoring and advanced treatment in a neonatal intensive care environment. The role requires rapid clinical assessment, precise treatment planning and effective coordination during both routine and emergency neonatal situations.

Close collaboration with obstetricians, pediatricians, nursing teams and other specialists is essential to support safe neonatal outcomes. The position also includes family communication, clinical governance and participation in quality improvement activities that strengthen standards of newborn care.

Key Responsibilities

* Assess and manage premature and critically ill neonates admitted to the NICU.
* Monitor newborns requiring intensive respiratory, cardiovascular or metabolic support.
* Develop individualized treatment plans according to gestational age, diagnosis and clinical condition.
* Perform neonatal resuscitation during delivery-room or NICU emergencies.
* Stabilize newborns experiencing acute respiratory or circulatory deterioration.
* Recognize early signs of neonatal complications and initiate timely intervention.
* Coordinate diagnostic investigations required for critically ill newborns.
* Review laboratory, imaging and clinical findings to guide treatment decisions.
* Manage common neonatal intensive care conditions within approved specialist privileges.
* Monitor treatment response and adjust care plans according to patient progress.
* Work closely with obstetricians when high-risk deliveries are anticipated.
* Collaborate with pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists on complex neonatal cases.
* Coordinate with NICU nursing teams to maintain continuity of care.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and treatment planning.
* Provide structured follow-up recommendations for newborns after stabilization or discharge.
* Counsel parents regarding diagnosis, treatment, expected progress and neonatal care requirements.
* Educate families about feeding, developmental follow-up and warning signs requiring medical review.
* Communicate sensitively with families during complex or high-risk neonatal situations.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Ideal Profile

The role requires an MBBS or equivalent recognized medical qualification together with specialist training in Neonatology, Pediatrics or an appropriate related pathway.

Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of post-specialization experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Strong practical experience managing premature newborns and critically ill neonates is essential. The successful specialist should be confident performing neonatal resuscitation, emergency stabilization and ongoing intensive care assessment.

An active professional healthcare license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate UAE license is expected based on the requirements of the employing facility.

Fluency in both Arabic and English is essential for this appointment.

The ideal candidate should combine sound clinical judgment with compassionate family communication and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary neonatal team.
