Role Context
This specialist appointment provides comprehensive care for patients with respiratory conditions affecting breathing, lung function, sleep, oxygenation, and overall quality
The role requires close coordination with intensivists, internal medicine physicians, thoracic surgeons, radiologists, respiratory therapists, and nursing teams. Accurate diagnosis and timely intervention will support improved symptom control, safer respiratory support, reduced complications, and better long-term outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and treat acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
* Manage asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and sleep-related breathing disorders.
* Conduct detailed patient assessments, including medical history review and physical examination.
* Request and interpret pulmonary function tests, chest imaging, arterial blood gases, and other respiratory investigations.
* Review bronchoscopy findings and correlate results with clinical and radiological information.
* Perform bronchoscopic procedures within approved clinical privileges.
* Carry out other pulmonary interventions when clinically appropriate.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, disease severity, comorbidities, and patient needs.
* Prescribe and monitor respiratory medications, inhaled therapies, oxygen treatment, and related interventions.
* Manage patients requiring non-invasive ventilation and respiratory support.
* Monitor clinical progress and adjust treatment plans according to symptoms, test results, and treatment response.
* Collaborate with intensivists, internists, thoracic surgeons, radiologists, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient pulmonology consultations.
* Educate patients and families about disease management, medication use, smoking cessation, preventive care, and lifestyle modification.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure records, investigation results, and follow-up plans.
* Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority regulations, hospital policies, and ethical medical standards.
* Participate in infection control programs, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement activities.
* Contribute to clinical audits, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education.
* Remain current with advances in respiratory medicine, bronchoscopy, sleep medicine, and interventional pulmonology.
Ideal Profile
Applicants must hold an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution and possess a Master\'s Degree, MD, DNB, or equivalent specialist qualification in Pulmonology or Respiratory Medicine.
Candidates should have at least three to five years of post-specialization experience as a Specialist Pulmonologist. Previous work in a reputable hospital or multispecialty healthcare facility is preferred.
Strong experience in bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, respiratory diagnostics, and the management of critically ill pulmonary patients is required.
A valid Dubai Health Authority Specialist licence, eligibility letter, or confirmed eligibility to obtain one is essential. BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred.
Fellowship training or additional experience in Interventional Pulmonology or Sleep Medicine would strengthen an application. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound clinical judgment, clear communication, accurate documentation, and effective multidisciplinary teamwork.
