Role Context
The Specialist Pulmonologist provides focused medical care for patients affected
by respiratory diseases that may range from common chronic conditions to complex pulmonary disorders requiring advanced diagnostics or respiratory support. The role combines clinical assessment, interpretation of pulmonary investigations, procedural care and long-term disease management.
The specialist works closely with internal medicine physicians, intensivists, thoracic surgeons and other clinical teams to coordinate treatment for patients with overlapping or severe respiratory conditions. Effective pulmonary care can reduce hospital admissions, improve symptom control and help patients maintain better functional capacity and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess patients presenting with acute or chronic respiratory symptoms.
* Obtain detailed medical histories and perform comprehensive respiratory examinations.
* Diagnose and manage asthma across varying levels of severity.
* Treat patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
* Manage community-acquired and hospital-related pneumonia according to clinical protocols.
* Evaluate patients with interstitial lung disease.
* Diagnose and monitor pulmonary fibrosis.
* Assess sleep-related breathing disorders and determine appropriate treatment pathways.
* Manage other pulmonary diseases requiring specialist respiratory input.
* Develop individualized treatment plans according to diagnosis, severity and patient needs.
* Monitor response to medication and adjust therapy when clinically indicated.
* Interpret pulmonary function tests.
* Analyze spirometry and other respiratory physiology results.
* Review chest X-rays and cross-sectional thoracic imaging.
* Interpret arterial blood gas findings.
* Assess bronchoscopy findings within the overall clinical picture.
* Perform diagnostic bronchoscopy within approved clinical privileges.
* Carry out appropriate pulmonary interventions according to training and credentialing.
* Evaluate patients requiring supplemental oxygen.
* Prescribe and monitor oxygen therapy safely.
* Manage suitable patients requiring non-invasive ventilation.
* Assess respiratory deterioration and escalate care appropriately.
* Collaborate with intensivists on patients with severe respiratory failure.
* Coordinate care with internal medicine teams for patients with complex comorbidities.
* Work with thoracic surgeons when surgical assessment or intervention is required.
* Refer patients to additional specialists when pulmonary disease involves multiple systems.
* Support inpatient respiratory consultations.

Ideal Profile
The position requires an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution together with postgraduate specialization in Pulmonology or Respiratory Medicine.
Candidates should hold a Master\'s Degree, MD, DNB or equivalent recognized specialist qualification relevant to pulmonary medicine.
A minimum of 3-5 years of post-specialization experience as a Specialist Pulmonologist is required, preferably within a reputable hospital or multispecialty healthcare facility.
The successful physician should demonstrate strong experience in bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing and management of patients with significant respiratory disease.
Practical expertise in asthma, COPD, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis and respiratory support is essential.
Candidates should hold a DHA Eligibility Letter, active DHA License or meet the requirements to obtain Specialist Pulmonologist licensure in Dubai.
Valid BLS and ACLS certification would be advantageous.
